NOTE: Please reply directly to Pat Tully] Hi, We were recently visited by a representative from Eastern Book Company and were thinking of trying them out. Before we do, we'd like to know what experiences other libraries have had with them (turnaround time, discounts, etc.) Thanks in advance! Patricia A. College) Subject: J.B. Lippencott Publishing Company [Ed. note: This message was forwarded to ACQNET by Marcia Tuttle] Hello: I am trying to find out what happened to the JB Lippencott Publishing Company. I would like to find out how to obtain some books for Young Adults that were published by JB Lippencott Publishing, and I am quite sure are out of print. I was hoping that if the JB Lippencott Publishing company had been taken over by another publishing company, I could then write to that company and hopefully be able to purchase those books. I was doing a search on the Internet and saw your posting that contained the information about the study by Vida Cohen, published in the _Readmore Reporter_, vol. 1:1 (Spring 1993) which contained the chart "The Top 25: Most Frequently Claimed Publishers, JB Lippencott = 2659" I realize that you may have no idea what happened to that publishing company, but even if you have any ideas how I may find out I would appreciate it. If it is not too much trouble, you can reach me by e-mail at jennife@kwantlen.bc.ca Sincerely yours, Jennifer Jordan +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jennifer Jordan e-mail: jennife@kwantlen.bc.ca Program Assistant-Capacity Expansion / PH: 599-3068 VM: 3068 mailing address: / FAX: 599-2990 Kwantlen University College Newton Campus Bldg.1 rm.101 12666 72nd Ave., Surrey V3W 2M8 UNITED KINGDOM ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (3)---------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 01 Oct 1997 10:29:14 -0700 From: Nancy Persons (Sonoma State Univ.) Subject: Music acquisitions Our media librarian is in a bind ever since Schwann ceased publication of _Spectrum_, a volume she used to gather label information for popular music. Has anyone got any suggestions for good replacement sources? She's looking at MuzePro on CD-ROM, a rather expensive prospect. Please send comments on possible replacements and/or your review of MuzePro to me. If interest warrants, I would be happy to summarize for the list. I would be interested in hearing your comments on their service. Please address your comments directly to me. Thank you. Please post known opportunities, esp. in Southern CA, to ACQNET - Thanks.] Are there any acquisitions workshops held in the west, especially southern California? The only two conferences/workshops I am aware of are the Charleston Conference and the event in Oregon (?). It seems to me that just are no acquisition training available except those two. But I am looking for workshops that I can send our technicians to as well as myself. Thank you kindly, Marcia Whipple whipple@spawar.navy.mil (6)--------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 10 Oct 1997 11:55:06 -0400 (EDT) From: Jan Selby (SUNY College at Cortland) Subject: Cataloging DLC/DLC on receipt At the request of our Cataloging Professional, I am posting this question to Acqnet-l. We are exploring cataloging DLC/DLC on receipt in the Acquisitions Dept. and would like to hear from others who have tried or are doing this. The wrinkle is that we do not have an integrated system. We are exporting OCLC records for use in Bibbase/Acq. Our OPAC is Multilis, but we are still cataloging in OCLC and exporting the record to Multilis. (You're right - two exports!) If there is anyone out there who has moved to cataloging DLC/DLC in Acquisitions with a microcomputer-based acquisitions system, we would like to hear from you: 1. What level of staff are doing the cataloging on receipt? 2. What extra training did you give the staff? 3. Were staff shifted from Cataloging to Acquisitions in order to make the change in work flow? Please respond to me directly and I will summarize for the list.
