I had already deleted that e-mail message when I found on my desk a letter from this publisher with their new affilliation and address! Please pass it on or post it. Thanks. I would say there is definitely a "blending" trend, especially in smaller libraries. Adrian's initial question has had me thinking about this enough that I plan to initiate an informal survey of the institutions that have placed ads for positions on ACQNET during the last few months. RE: Adrian Alexander's post: I have to say that there probably will be a staffing crisis but it's of our own making. I came back absolutely depressed from ACRL in Nashville. Everyone seemed to be singing the same outsourcing/teaming/non-job song -- basically that there's no longer any room in libraries for such specialized people as serials librarians or, especially, acquisitions librarians. Let the vendors do it or let the paraprofessionals do it, librarians are too expensive to be wasted in such "routine" (ha!) behind the scenes chores. Librarians should be on the front lines and if they're not, they're dead wood. It *was* interesting but damned scary. Personally, at this minute I'm thinking of looking for a non-library job in no small part because of the way my skills were pretty much dismissed at ACRL. The need for trained librarians is constantly increasing but the availability of quality MLS programs has decreased drastically. Perhaps we also need to reassess the jobs of acquisitions which require the MLS when, in fact, most of the work they do (at least in my experience) is clerical and the actual selection is done by the librarians in other areas (although this is admittedly my perception and may not represent the trend and situation in many or most libraries). I have worked in a library for the past 14 years as a technician in acquisitions and serials. I am very interested in these acquisitions and serials announcements because I would like to continue my library work (as a librarian) in either one or both of these fields. I, for one, am glad to see so many job offerings. It gives me a chance to look at many different libraries and job responsibilities throughout the country.
