For many years we have used The Library Bookseller (formerly TAAB) as an excellent source for locating out-of-print books. My most recent letter to them (at Box 9544, Berkeley, CA 04709-0544) was returned to sender with no forwarding address. Does anyone know if they have gone out of business, or moved to a new location? I would appreciate a current address if anyone has one. In this era where re-engineering is such a fashionable term, it would be worthwhile learning from others' experiences before moving into a direction purely on theoretical grounds. Benefits to the academic community that a library serves appear good with such a model, allowing also closer interaction with the reader services areas of a library that generally are subject oriented, but how does this affect dealings with the other side of our operations, the vendors and other services we deal with outside a library? Please respond to me directly. If general interest is indicated, I shall summarise for the List. A big thank you to this list! I have found so much of value in the communications that have appeared since I became a subscriber. I am a public services librarian who is being reassigned to function as the acquisitions and collection development librarian. What are the "bibles" or recommended readings in this field of librarianship? What journals do you read to stay informed? Quinnipiac College is a private college of about 3000 undergraduate students and another 2000 in graduate and continuing ed programs. Schools are Allied Health & Sciences, Business and Liberal Arts. The library contains approximately 130,000 volumes. A recon project is underway to get everything into our OPAC. The acquisitions dept. has one part-time clerical assistant. We will be implementing the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. acquisitions and serials modules this fall. Thanks for your advice. June M.
