Subject: OP Internet tools : INTERLOC I would be interested if anybody has heard of/used a new out of print service called INTERLOC. It is a subscription service where one can post out of print requests to a large network of OP dealers. One of our librarians used it for personal items he was interested in (thru a dealer who subscribes to the service) and received more than a dozen quotes on each of two titles he was looking for. Hopefully, I've not missed an extensive profile of this resource in a prior issue of ACQNET, but would be happy to report on the results of my investigation (including e-mail contact/address!) to anyone who is interested. Brian McLaughlin Acquisitions Supervisor Syracuse University Library [Howard Bybee made an similar inquery in ACQNET 5.19.2. Perhaps he or others have had more experience with this service since then? -Ed.] (2)--------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 07 Dec 1995 09:45:57 -0800 (PST) From: Marylou Hale (UNLV) Subject: RE: Yankee's Folio In ACQNET 5.38.1, Dianne Witte asked about the use of Yankee's Folio. We have been a Folio user for several years. According to our most recent stats, we use Folio for approximately 47% of our firm order business. Using Folio cut weeks off the delivery time. I love it and can recommend it highly. Hang in there, it does get easier. One suggestion is to establish an e-mail connection with your representative. Through e-mail, problems are resolved quickly. Hamilton, Bookseller We've been experiencing difficulties with Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller, Falls Village, CT 06031-5000, and wonder if anyone on the list has had any experience with this company. Specifically, they require prepayment. This is fine with us. However, our accounting dept. will not make prepayments unless the company fills out a W9 form which gives their federal I.D. #. The company has not done so to date. The problem is compounded by the fact that we have no telephone number, FAX number, or e-mail address for them. We have asked for them, but have received no reply. A query to telephone information found no telephone number listed (or unlisted). The company sells remainders. Any help would be appreciated. Please post directly to me. [There have been questions about this dealer in ACQNET 1.135.1, 2.10.6, and 2.12.3; all with similar frustrations. Does anyone have an update on this situation? --Ed.] Nancy Myers, Acquisitions Librarian University of South Dakota (4)--------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 13 Dec 1995 09:15:11 -0500 From: Sally Gale (Indiana state U.) Subject: RE: Looking for videos: Try VideoLib The listserv VIDEOLIB (listserv@library.berkeley.edu) frequently has messages from people wanting to locate videos and someone usually responds rather quickly. The list is sponsored by the ALA Video Round Table and is owned by Gary Handman, Director of the Media Resources Center, Moffitt Library, University of California Berkeley. [According to the introductory text: "It is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues related to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control, preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and related institutions." Included in the primary focus statement is acquisitions (locating hard-to-find materials, library/vendor relations, etc.). Great to know about! We can all send our video inquiries there. It is produced by Digital Directory Assistance. We purchased it through Updata Publications. The product is easy to use and is quite popular with our students. Our Law Library has, in the past, ordered material direct from publishers, both monographs and serials. We are considering looking at using vendors at least for some of the material. We use vendors in the main and science libraries but I'm told Law is different. Could those of you who have experience with using vendors in a Law library share the pros and cons and also which material should not go to a vendor and why. Subject: Benchmarking Colleagues, The NTU Library is currently undertaking a benchmarking project on the following topic: "The acquisitions receipt and cataloguing process, i.e. the process from when an ordered item (monograph or audiovisual) is received into the University Library to availability for client use." We are now at the stage where we are seeking potential benchmarking partners. We are interested in all library types, not only academic. We would appreciate responses to the following questions. 1. What is your Library type? 2. What is your organisational structure? 3. (a) How many staff are in the Library? (b) How many staff are involved in: (i) Acquisitions (ii) Cataloguing (iii) End Processing? 4. Briefly describe your processes of: Acquisitions, Cataloguing, End Processing. 5. Would you be prepared to communicate with our benchmarking team during Feb/Mar 1996, to look at how you perform the processes we are interested in? 6. Would you like more information on our project? 7. Any feedback/comments on benchmarking would be appreciated. Could you please respond direct to me, not to the list. Thank you.
