Subject: Pricing policies for _LAPT_ Regarding _LAPT_ : Yes the pricing is outrageous. Most of us are in the same boat of not being able to justify purchasing a high priced journal which is of use to one person only. We don't purchase these type of journals for the teaching faculty either. The publisher of _LAPT_ is losing money on both institutional as well as personal subscriptions with this current policy, and I hope they change their minds about not offering personal subscriptions to persons whose libraries cannot afford an institutional subscription. I find it well worth the money -- it is really not that expensive if one considers the cost of a continuing ed course or conference. Comments or suggestions from more experienced acquisitions folks would be welcomed. .............................................................. Kay's query about Rausch and Serendipity as OP suppliers, I am familiar with both and find them to be reliable, suppliers. Rausch is indeed a high-yield supplier, but he tends to over-estimate the condition of his books, so you might want to take the descriptions he sends and bump them down a notch. For example, a book described as "very good" is probably just "good." When I first came to work at UNCG, my institution had only 4 OP suppliers, one of which was the Library Bookseller, a publication mentioned in an earlier issue of ACQNET. Over the last 5 years, our dealer list has grown to over 60 suppliers. Even so, we have a lengthy want list of over 200 items, many of which we will never obtain. Our most recent challenge is the replacement of some out-of-print music scores. Does anyone have a suggestion for a dealer who handles scores?? Thank you in advance. Does anyone out there know their addresses and phone numbers, or other OP vendors that you might have good experience with? Thanks in advance. Kokolus (Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales) Subject: Cooperative acquisitions in consortiums Our consortium of six colleges and universities are talking about the possibility of cooperative acquisitions. We would like to try it using our second or third tier vendors to start. Has anyone successfully accomplished this? Is it worth the effort? How did you actually set up the ordering process? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Cait Kokolus Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales Center Valley, Pa. Today, the Collection contains virtually comprehensive holdings of publications issued in Iceland or written in Icelandic before 1930, and has continued a very active selection policy since then. Ongoing acquisitions include significant coverage of contemporary women's issues, political science, history, biography and genealogy, geography, and natural sciences as well as Old Norse and modern Icelandic language and literature.
