They are offering three discounted prices for the 34 volume set, to be published in early 1996: (1) Order now @ $6,000.00 and pay the invoice in full by 12/31/94 (Save $2,000.00); or (2) Be billed in three annual installments (Save $1,250.00) or (3) Reserve now, pay upon receipt (Save $1,000.00). We are in a position this year to be able to afford option 1, however, I feel uncomfortable with committing $6,000.00 of the college's funds for a publication which we won't see for almost 2 years. A great deal can happen in 2 years to either a publication or the publisher. Our policy is to avoid pre-payments whenever possible, because of the extra work involved in tracking the receipt of these items, often into the next budget year.
