Subject: ALCTS Acquisitions Section Survey Date: Wed, 27 Apr 1994 13:05:50 -0400 [NOTE! Return this survey to Rosann, NOT ACQNET - ed.] The ALCTS AS Acquisitions Organization and Management Committee is taking a survey to determine how the traditional role of acquisitions librarians (i.e. pre-order searching, ordering, receiving, and paying) has been changing. Our aim is to target responses from those librarians who supervise acquisitions functions in their libraries. If, in fact, roles are changing, we want to determine ways to prepare ourselves (and our colleagues) for future roles. In order to determine this, please take the time to complete this VERY SHORT survey. Please indicate your Position Title: --------------------------------------------------------------- How long have you been in your current position? ------------------------------ Type of Library: ----------- Academic ----------- Public ----------- Health Science ----------- Special ----------- Other What are your current responsibilities? Library system vendors tell us that there MUST be a library subset of the X12 transaction sets before they will begin programming for this application. We plan to start with the combined X12 book and serial Purchase Order transaction set. What data elements MUST be there from a library perspective? Will book wholesalers and subscription agents program their computers to "read" and their staff to react to each of these data elements? This day-long session WILL NOT WORK unless librarians and their book wholesalers and serial subscription agents participate. We have a European model to use as our starting point. We need your input and that of your vendors to create workable requirements for the U.S. library community.
