It contains articles, news items, meeting reports, profiles of publishers and libraries, interviews, updates on standards and technology, and so forth. A typical issue probably has 60-75 pages. It costs $25 per year and is available from Katina Strauch, Citadel Station, Charleston SC 29409. Sample issues are available upon request. (3)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Mitchell Hall (Portland State University) Subject: Vendors of Spanish language monographs Date: Thu, 12 Aug 1993 14:59:53 -0400 If anyone out there knows of a RELIABLE vendor of Spanish language monographs here in the U.S., please send me a post. I'm interested in vendors or dealers who will offer form approval plans on author/subject profiles and who have catalogs of currently available titles. Subjects we're interested in are literature, literary criticism, literary theory, and bibliographic and reference works. Basically, we need a vendor who handles humanities-related materials from both continental Spanish and Latin-American sources (and of course, Mexican and Portuguese). If you have first-hand testimonials of good ones, I'd like to hear from you. Thanks in advance. (4)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Graham Black (Univ. of Central Queensland) Subject: Australian Vendors Date: Fri, 13 Aug 1993 11:30:46 -0400 Some time ago some a number of ACQNETters enquired of Australian vendors. It may be worth getting in touch with: Peter Pal Library Supplier 14 Randall St Slacks Creek Queensland Australia 4127 Ph: 61 7 2093922 Fax: 61 7 8087984 Peter Pal can obtain commercial, non-commercial and government publications. (5)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Karen Schmidt (University of Illinois) Subject: Licensing agreement procedures Date: Mon, 16 Aug 1993 11:10:31 -0400 In preparation for writing a licensing agreement handling procedure, I would be interested in seeing any library's policies or procedures for handling these types of contracts and agreements. Please respond to me, not to ACQNET. If anyone else is interested in seeing what I compile, I'll be happy to share it. Thanks. (6)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Karen Schmidt (University of Illinois) Subject: Scientific Publishers Date: Mon, 16 Aug 1993 15:49:07 -0400 Does anyone have any information about a publisher called Scientific Publishers (presumably located in Gainesville, Florida)? We are trying to purchase a book from them, and cannot contact them, despite 3 different telephone numbers. (7)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Kristina Starkus (Marquette University) Subject: Downloading OCLC records for ordering Date: Mon, 16 Aug 1993 15:13:51 -0500 (CDT) Are any of you downloading full bibliographic records from OCLC into your online catalog for firm ordering? If so, what changes do you make in the OCLC record before printing out the record for the vendor or publisher? Do you switch ISBN fields, add compilers and translators to the 100 field, correct imprint information as needed, etc.? Please be specific. What do you use your vendor note for? Also, since this downloaded record is now shared between acquisitions and cataloging, what has been the response from cataloging to any modifications in the record? Any feedback or ideas about this issue would be greatly appreciated. Please send responses directly to me. Thanks. (8)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Beth Jacoby (New York University) Subject: Remainder companies Date: Wed, 18 Aug 1993 00:17:10 -0400 In my continuing quest to find out-of-print books, I was wondering if any of you have tried to use remainder companies to find recently out- of-print books. If so, what success (if any) have you had? What problems have you run into? Would you be willing to supply me with the names and addresses of the remainder companies which you use? (9)------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Ann Waligorski (University of Arkansas) Subject: Submission of orders electronically Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1993 14:54:22 -0400 Currently all firm orders requested by our faculty are submitted to the Acquisitions Department on typed 3 x 5" order forms. The patron request function in our Innovative Interfaces OPAC is for the use of non-faculty only, and titles submitted in this manner are received in the department on a printout, i.e. they are not "in" the system. We are investigating the possibility of having order requests submitted via e-mail and/or disk. The majority of academic departments are on the campus network which utilizes a number of file servers; the remainder have PCs. How have acquisitions departments that receive orders via e-mail and/or disk set up this operation? Do you use a template? Is it mounted on the network? Do you transfer information from the template to a file that prints 3 x 5" order cards? Or do you work from a printout of the template? Respond directly to me an I shall summarize for the group. ****** END OF FILE ****** ACQNET, Vol. 3, No. 67 ****** END OF FILE ******
