(3)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: July 14, 1993 From: Christian Subject: New ACQNET Editorial Board members It gives me great pleasure to welcome two new members to the ACQNET Editorial Board. Marylou Hale, Orders Supervisor at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas Library, as I wrote in the last issue, has taken on the management of the ACQNET directories. Eleanor Cook, Serials Librarian at Appalachian State University, has graciously accepted to take charge of the index. Both Marylou and Eleanor have been long-time subscribers and contributors to ACQNET. Their commitment to it will make them equally useful on the Editorial Board. Well I did enjoy myself (some Anglo-Saxons know how to enjoy themselves Christian, you should come to our conferences sometime...) and it was largely thanks to the 6 (yes ONLY SIX) people who took the trouble to answer my plea and three of those I already count as friends. So thanks to Lawrence Caylor, Norman Desmarais, Barry Fast, Julia Gelfand, Richard Jasper and Dottie Marcinko - I appreciated all your advice and the trouble you went to on my behalf. Getting invitations to three vendors' cocktail parties on Sunday all of which I managed to attend meant that ethics meetings took second place, but it wasn't a lack of interest since the British National Acquisitions Group (NAG) is currently working on a code of ethics too and I already relayed the ACQNET item on this topic to them. What none of you told me, perhaps because none of you knew, was that international visitors can register free. Sure would have saved me some money. I'll start saving up now for another ALA but meanwhile if my brain returns from New Orleans I have the British version to go to this weekend........ I am interested in any technical service projects that seek to reduce the impact of operations on the environment, such as limiting paper production, recycling paper and/or print cartridges, conserving electricity by turning unused computer displays down or off, etc. Please reply to me and I'll summarize for the list. Thanks. (7)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1993 11:05:08 -0400 From: Doug DeLong, (Illinois State Univ.) Subject: Mexico City newspaper We are looking for a general Mexico City newspaper that we can expect to be received on a regular basis. Our last attempt failed due to lack of receipt and a general unwillingness of the publisher to respond to agent claims. Anyone with a suggestion for a title, or a U.S. vendor or news agent who can provide newspapers from Mexico City on a reliable basis please forward that information direct to me. (8)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1993 09:14:41 -0400 (EDT) From: Bernard Helms (Andrews University) Subject: Gordon Press Our library sent a pre-paid order to Gordon Press, P.O. Box 459, Bowling Green Station, New York, NY 10004. When the book came we discovered that it was only a hardbound copy a Government Publication. The letter that came with the book has, stamped in red, All Sales Final, Books Not Returnable. My advice, watch out for this "press"! (9)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jul 1993 11:14:21 -0400 From: Jeri Van Goethem (Duke University) Subject: Communicating ordering information to bibliographers Can anyone advise us on methods for setting up sending orders from bibliographers to searchers via e-mail over the LAN? Does anyone know of a software package which would allow the sending of a "template" of required data fields/elements to a mailbox set up for a bibliographer's dedicated searcher? Of course, it would also be nice to merge this with the capability to retrieve and send records from BIP+, OCLC, etc. Any helpful hints will be appreciated. We are going to "invent" some method for doing this.....
