Does anyone have such a list to share or know where one is available? Thanks for any help. (2)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 93 13:20:43 EST From: Richard Jasper (Emory University) Subject: BLIZZARD OF '93 Here's hoping all my fellow east coast correspondents have fared well in what has been dubbed "the storm of the century." The Jasper household fared better than much of Atlanta did. We only lost power for an hour on Saturday, unlike thousands of others in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia who were without power all day Saturday--and some still haven't been fully restored. The eight-ten inches of snow we received was very pretty, but Saturday was a pretty wild day, with winds normally blowing about 30-40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. A small pine fell over about 10 a.m. Saturday, which was my prescient excuse to tell David, going on 6, that "no way, Jose," was he going out in those conditions. About 1 p.m. one of the 60 foot pines in our back yard (we grow 'em big in Atlanta), snapped in two, the top limbs brushing the dining room windows, knocking off about a dozen significant limbs from 4-5 other trees, and totally smashing the kids wooden picnic table. We were all watching bug-eyed as it happened. The wind finally died down about 6 p.m. and then the temperature began dropping. Overnight lows of 10-15 degrees in the metro area and 5-10 degrees in the mountains constituted a record for this time of the year, as did the snowfall and the wind. By morning we had knee-deep drifts, which Atlanta NEVER gets, and yard-long icicles hanging from our eaves. We started thawing out yesterday but then it got down in the teens again, so most people didn't try to come to work until mid-morning. Even then, Clairmont Road, a major artery into the Emory area, was two lanes and 15 mph, thanks to a large patch of ice just down the road from the Decatur VA Hospital. Emory, of course, was open today, the only university in North Georgia to do so, which we all attribute to the University President's home being on campus... It all may sound pretty tame to my New England and Midwestern colleagues, but for the folks in Atlanta, it was a REALLY BIG DEAL. [The word here is that we got 2 feet of snow. It was a blizzard, so most of it blew away. Half of it ended up in my driveway, and I'm curious: Where did the other half go? -- C.] (3)------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Mar 1993 12:40:31 HST From: Thelma Diercks (University of Hawaii) Subject: Position Announcement Assistant Head of Monographs DESCRIPTION: Librarian III, B-3 or Librarian IV, B-4, Position No. 84017, Assistant Head of Monographs, Hamilton Library.
