Although Richard had experienced some health problems in recent months, he was still able to maintain professional and social activities up to the time of his death. A gentleman, renowned book collector, world traveler, and professional bookman with a strong commitment to the academic and research library community, Richard was widely read and well-spoken in several languages. It was his dedicated efforts and personal sacrifices of his family, that provided for the relocation and rebuilding of the firm of Otto Harrassowitz in western Germany after World War II. Having met him only in the twilight of his career, we found him to be a very gentle, loving, and caring man and we will miss him.
