I'd like to hear who people are using for their Latin American approval materials. Do people use multiple vendors for various countries? Is there a single vendor who can cover most of Latin America adequately? I'd also appreciate any comments regarding using approval plans to take the place of a bibliographer (particularly for Latin American materials) - does it work? Where would we run into problems in doing this? What are the pros and cons? Does anyone have past experience with doing this? Thanks! (3) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 22 Jul 92 17:28:22 EDT From: Richard Jasper Subject: _Education Index_ checklist As usual, I'm running behind on this one: In the late spring we received from H.W. Wilson an _Education Index_ checklist, asking us to indicate which of the 400 titles we receive on subscription and indicating that our subscription rate is "based on the indexed periodicals you receive." What have other people done with this survey, if anything? It seems like an unnecessary chore to me, but then I hate surveys. Has anyone experienced a major increase/decline in the subscription cost as a result of having filled out the checklist? Any comments would be appreciated. Eannarino Subject: Australian serial vendors We are interested in identifying Australian serial vendors. Which agents are others using? Recommendations and caveats are welcome. (5) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 23 Jul 92 11:16:01 PDT From: Donna Signori Subject: Non-circulating journal statistics I am interested in finding out how libraries (preferably NOTIS users) handle collecting use statistics for journals which do not circulate. Since this is one of the major criteria used in serials cancellation projects, although not the only one, it seems to me that there must be some methodologies in practice out there. I would like to hear about the pros and cons of your methodology, assuming most procedures aren't perfect! Thanks for your help. (6) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 24 Jul 1992 09:14:44 U From: Joyce Ogburn Subject: Increases in binding The main library at Yale, which purchases primarily humanities and social science titles, including a great many foreign publications, has experienced a large increase in the number of books which go through the bindery. We bind everything received in paper cover. We are attempting to determine the cause of our increase and to formulate a strategy to deal with it. Some of the increase is due to local projects, but we are also wondering if, in general, more books are being produced in paper INSTEAD of hard cover. We have the yearly articles on book output from PW and other information from Bowker publications. Are there other sources out there? Has anyone done a study which would be helpful? Thanks for your help. ******* END OF FILE ****** ACQNET, Vol. 2, No. 70 ****** END OF FILE *******
