The copy which I have is dated 8/83 and includes the names and addresses of 79 different imprints attributed to the Gille brothers at that time. Coutts Library Services has a more recent list of American publishers which they do not supply. That list includes some of the imprints (names only) from the Midwest lists as well as the more recent imprints which the Gille brothers have added to their "stable." (3) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 18 May 92 11:10:41 EDT From: Pamela Rose Subject: Gille imprints Regarding the Gille imprints: from a letter from the U.S. Dept. of Justice I received during initial investigations in 1980, the following imprints were listed: "Mr. Gille used a series of different names as the alleged publishers of the various encyclopedias. These included Scholarly Press, Negro History Press, Somerset Publishers, International Electronics Information Services, and International Translation Publishing Company." (4) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 18 May 1992 12:41:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Peter Stevens Subject: Gille list ALA used to make available, via the RTSD Bookdealer-Library Relations Commit- tee, both the Gille and Flumiani lists of publisher names. Some library vendors, such as Midwest Library Services, also provide copies of lists of Gille imprints (as recently as 1987). Some of us have continued to order reprints from Gille firms but without ever paying their invoices, instead charging the cost of these reprints against the money owed us from the days of the _Indians of America_ prepayment. UNLV is trying to build a comprehensive collection of worldwide gaming materials, but had no contacts in Australia. I remembered that Christian had forwarded e-mail addresses for ACQNET members and that a few were listed in Australia. She quickly made electronic contact (and hit a few more countries from the ACQNET list also). And by the miracle of this wonder- ful type of communication, some folks who actually worked in acquisitions in Australia were able to make arrangements to meet with her on her upcoming trip. She was thrilled to actually have the names of people who purchase materials for libraries in countries other than in the United States. Before she left, she wanted me to extend a great big THANKS to ACQNET. Call Herb Sclar at 800-882-2844. You might want to see if your check has been cashed, as a first step. (7) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 18 May 92 13:28:44 PDT From: Joe Barker Subject: _Foreign Bookdealers Directory_ The ALCTS ALMS Foreign Bookdealers Directories Subcommittee of the ALMS Publications Committee is working on a series of revisions. Their scope will be both monograph and serial vendors. The first will cover Asia and the Pacific. It should be available late this year, depending on ALA's publication schedule. Subsequent series topics will be Africa, the Middle/Near East. We may go on to do Eastern Europe and the former U.S.S.R. We are deferring decision on Latin America. The approach of the series is to survey through acquisitions heads in ARL libraries for the vendors used by those with significant acquisitions programs. The series will be a report of who is actually used. We are not surveying vendors as is the practice of the _International Subscription Agents_ publica- tion. If acquisitions librarians want to get involved in this series, there is room for a few new committee members willing to work. Contact me or Judith Niles, chair of the ALMS Publications Committee. The _Third World Bookdealers_ directory is woefully out of date and has not been re-edited. (8) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 18 May 92 17:06:10 EDT From: Scott Wicks Subject: Vendor for Canadian publications I have just been alerted to the name of a Canadian vendor who claims that they are able to supply Canadian government documents. If there is such a beast that can supply these tricky, slippery titles AND is efficient with other standard Canadian publishers, I'd like to know it. Has anyone had extensive experience using the Ottawa-based Renouf? I'd appreciate any substantiated information. Thank you. (9) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 15 May 92 16:39:48 EDT From: Barbara Stelmasik Subject: Music scores vendors Recently, there was a useful exchange on ACQNET on the subject of vendors of music recordings. We tried some of the vendors and are pleased with their performance. I would be interested in similar suggestions for music SCORES vendors. We would like to have this on hand to show to donors, etc., when necessary. ******* END OF FILE ****** ACQNET, Vol. 2, No. 57 ****** END OF FILE *******
