I have a list of 1178 monographs and 163 serial titles on general philately and a list of 70 monographs about postcards. I've checked issues of _Philatelic Literature Review_ and found some potential buyers, but would be most appreciative to learn of any additional contacts. Some of their scholarly reprints were taken over by Ayer Pub. many years ago, and may still be available from them. (4) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 14 Feb 92 08:37:37 -0800 From: Marylou Hale Subject: Private offices I have been appointed to a committee to plan a new library for us at UNLV. In one discussion, the issue of private offices arose. It was implied from this discussion that these offices (for both Public and Technical Services) are very needed and something for which we should fight. I can see advantages to both viewpoints although I'm leaning toward suggesting that Acquisitions might not benefit as much from such a set-up as some of the other departments. The heads of each unit definitely need some place to meet with others and to counsel employees, but I think much of the interaction we have with our bibliographers is on an informal drop-in type of thing. Will building private offices facilitate or hinder this? I would like to hear from those in both types of situations and if possible, pros and cons of each arrangement. I would like to know what experience others have had using UPDATA Publications, Inc., 1736 Westwood Boulevard, Los Angeles 90024, as a vendor of CD-ROM products, especially for subscription/standing order type service. (6) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 17 Feb 1992 09:23:10 +0300 From: Betty Oktay Subject: French postal charges Just in case you hadn't noticed: The November 1991 _Livres de France_ has a small notice as follows: The French postal services no longer accept overseas surface parcels. This means that books now have to be sent abroad by much more expensive airmail. France's overseas possessions have been spared this new ruling, as a result of large-scale protests. So here is an additional cost to be considered for your allocation and expendi- tures for French materials, that is, unless you are receiving books postage- free from France. We are getting the books faster AND paying more. (7) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 18 Feb 92 08:58:32 EDT From: Gary Flanagan Subject: CBS News broadcast transcripts Prior to their discontinuing this product, we received microfiche copies of transcripts for CBS News telecasts from UMI. However, UMI discontinued this product in 1990 and we haven't been able to locate a source for this material since then. We recently telephoned UMI, and they told us that the rights to this material had been acquired by a company named Burrell (but they didn't have a fuller name or an address or location) and that DIALOG was providing this information on-line, suggesting that we might contact the latter. DIALOG representatives, however, were not aware of this product and informed us that they don't market it. If anyone can provide us with a source either on microform or CD-ROM, we would appreciate it greatly. (8) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 18 Feb 92 08:58:32 EDT From: Gary Flanagan Subject: College bulletins and catalogs We are looking for alternative sources for college bulletins and catalogs on microfiche. We currently receive fiche produced by Career Guidance Foundation in San Diego, CA. However, the quality of the image when enlarged, and of prints, is not what we would prefer. Is anyone aware of any other sources for these materials which provide a better quality?
