It's been mucho fun, but I'm afraid I'll never be the timely editor we've grown accustomed to in Christian. Maybe if I had a modem at home? In the meantime, here are the latest additions... In response to Scott Wicke's comments on the Collet's letter, I will add that I received it on the same day that I received a copy of a fax sent from the Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga to Mrs. Eva Skelley of Collets. I will copy the first paragraph here: "Responding to your fax of June 29, 1991 we wish to express our deep surprise at your position: we have never given you the right to represent Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga in the US market because our main partner there is "Kamkin." After LLE liquidation wishing to protect their former clients we have asked "Collets" in England, "Kubon & Sagner" in Germany, "Messidor" in France and "Kamkin" in the USA to work with those clients in their countries." The letter is signed by A. Belostovsky, Deputy General Director and O. Fomin, Director of "Kniga-1". The fax is dated July 4, 1991. (3) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Date: July 25, 1991 From: Joyce Ogburn Subject: Guidelines for Assigning Vendors? Does anyone have written guidelines for staff instructing them in how to assign vendors for their orders? The question addresses both serials and monographs, ordering direct vs. a vendor, and deciding on the right vendor. I have my own experience to draw on for writing guidelines for my new ordering staff, but I could still benefit from the wisdom of others. If you have nothing written, please at least share your thoughts over ACQNET. Thanks. (4) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 26 Jul 91 10:37 EST From: Janet L Flowers Subject: Southern Americana Grant Our Library (along with Duke and NC State) has just been awarded a DOE grant for documenting the contemporary South. UNC will be purchasing retrospective titles in the the following categories: newspapers and civil rights material; films, folklore records and survey data; backfiles of literary magazines and monographs related to social sciences, music and art; monographs related to local history and the social sciences. |These purchases will be| for the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida,Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee; and peripheral states (for this project folks!) Delaware, Maryland, Texas, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. I would appreciate any advice anyone can provide regarding how to identify and acquire these materials. The names and addresses of local dealers that you use for your state's regional and local histories would be especially helpful. Thanks y'all. |
