As you can tell, "July" has arrived a few days early in that I'm the one putting together ACQNET No. 90, not Christian. Considering that pre-ALA hysteria has reached a fever pitch here at Emory, I wasn't planning to do anything about ACQNET until after the 4th of July. But Barbara Winters' missive (see below) won't wait. While we're at it, I'll make one other point: It's probably best if you continue sending postings directly to Christian's ACQNET id (CRI@CORNELLC); Scott Wicks will forward these to me and I will put the July issues together based on his postings. Looking forward to a great deal of good conversation, both here in Atlanta this weekend and afterwards in ACQNET. Take care getting here! (3) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Date: June 24, 1991 From: Barbara Winters (BWINTERS@VCUVAX) Subject: Tenets of Acquisitions -- Informal Meeting at ALA |BW wanted this item in ASAP--it would have come to you sooner except Emory's incoming bitnet mail has experienced delays this week. Sorry, Barbara! --RPJ| Those interested in the informal discussion regarding acquisitions tenets and the role of the acquisitions professional should gather in the GWCC, room 217E, immediately following the RS Reorganization Meeting (ca. 12:30), Monday, July 1. We will have a light lunch but a meaty discussion! We will meet from 12:30 to 1:30, to allow folks time to get to their 2:00 meetings. If you need more details, contact Barbara Winters by Wednesday afternoon at 804-367-1094; or call her at the Hilton in Atlanta at 404-659-2000 after Thursday afternoon. (4) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Date: June 25, 1991 From: Barbara Higginbotham (BXHBC@CUNYVM) Subject: Budget formulae |This was forwarded by Howard Spivak (HOBSC@CUNYVM)--Ed.| Is your library's acquisitions budget determined by the application of a formula or rationale? (We are not asking about a formula or schematic used for allocating the acquisitions budget among academic departments, disciplines, or material types after the budget is already determined, but a method for deciding how much that budget will actually be.) Some of the factors which may be included in such a formula are number of students, number of faculty, enrollment levles in various disciplines, and costs of various material types (books, journals, AV, electronic media). If you have such a formula or rationale please contact Barbra Higginbotham, Chief Librarian, Brooklyn College, Brooklyn NY 11210; BXHBC@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU; Voice 718/780-5342; Fax 718/859-7277. Please pardon any duplicate messages that arrive from duplicate postings. (5) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Date: June 26, 1991 From: Richard Jasper (LIBRPJ@EMUVM1) Subject: PVLR Monday meeting Some of you will have noted that the Monday meeting of the ALCTS Publisher/Vendor-Library Relations Committee (PVLR) is scheduled at *exactly* the same time as the RS/CMDS/ALMS Reorganization Open Forum, i.e., 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1. For that matter, the Open Forum meeting is supposed to be across the hall from the PVLR Meeting, which is to take place in GWCC (Georgia World Congress Center) 218E. As it happens, practically everyone on PVLR would like to be at the Reorganization Open Forum--including me, and I'm the chair of PVLR. Consequently, we will try to limit PVLR's Monday agenda to reporting out items from the executive session of our Saturday meeting. (As you know, executive session is when we discuss complaints and other matters of a confidential nature.) Hopefully, we will wrap up in time to adjourn and to go across the hall for the Open Forum. All this means we will have a very full agenda for PVLR's Saturday, June 29 meeting, which is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. in GWCC 216E. Hope you will be able to join us then. *** END OF FILE *** END OF FILE *** END OF FILE *** END OF FILE *** |
