Library Associates Companies (LAC) is seeking an Assistant Director for 
Technical
Services in a Public Library located in a small-town in North Carolina. 
This is an
attractive Library located in a town that offers a unique combination of 
small-town
ambiance and big-city attractions. The town is centrally located within 
driving distance
from Charlotte, Fayetteville and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill 
triangle. We are
seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic librarian with a strong 
technical background
and commitment to service who will oversee all aspects of the Library's 
integrated
computing resources and services. This candidate will serve as Technical 
and Automated
Services Librarian and will report to the Director of Library & 
Information Technology
Services. This is a direct-hire fulltime opportunity. The application 
process includes a
criminal background check. This is a drug-free environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES

* Oversee the development and operation of all library computing 
resources and
services including: acquisition, cataloging, processing and circulation 
of all library materials
as well as the automation of these and other library functions;
* Establishing technical services procedures, creating original 
cataloging and maintaining
all library computer systems;
* Supervising staff and volunteers;
* Plans and implements new technologies to support the Library's mission;
* Provides technical support for new projects;
* Directly supervises all circulation functions and the work of 
circulation specialists;
* Oversees the provision of original descriptive cataloging, 
classifications, and appropriate
subject headings of book and non-book materials in MARC format;
* Works in tandem with the town IT department in terms of library needs;
* Participate in the development of the Library website.



QUALIFICATIONS

* Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA 
accredited
school is required;
* One or more years of experience managing library automation systems 
and supporting
information technology systems in a library are required;
* Must have or obtain a valid North Carolina drivers’ license;
* Public Library experience a plus;
* Considerable knowledge of library automation;
* Considerable knowledge of bibliographic record structures (including 
metadata standards)
and core library operations such as circulation, cataloging, 
acquisitions, serials. etc.;
* Working knowledge of MS Office programs;
* Excellent people skills, both oral and written;
* Physical ability to handle the tools of the trade, and to lift/move 
computers and peripheral
equipment.
