Subject:  Job Announcement: Project Manager (Washington DC)


LAC is seeking a full-time (40 hours) Project Manager to oversee and manage
collection maintenance operations in a government Law Library in Washington
DC. The hours of coverage are 8:30 am to 9:30 pm (Monday through Friday)
and 8:30 am to 5:00 (Saturday). The anticipated duration of the project 
is from
July 14, 2008 to April 18, 2009. Please apply ASAP as this is a proposal we

RESPONSIBLITIES:

    * Managing of staff in the maintenance of legal and legislative 
materials and
the provision of book services to various government agencies as well as 
the
public. These activities include:
          o  routines involved in sorting, arranging, shelving, shifting 
of legal materials,
using various modules of Library of Congress Integrated Library System 
(ILS)
including (circulation, OPAC, cataloging and acquisitions) for 
retrieval, searching
for call numbers, checking holdings, tracking items, pin and linking, or 
classifications.
    * Interview, hire, train and review the work of subordinate staff.
    * Assist administration in staffing schedules and assignments to 
make maximum
use of the available hours of coverage.

  
QUALIFICATIONS:

    * Must have at least three (3) years of prior experience working in 
a law library
of over one million volumes.
    * Demonstrated ability to manage collection maintenance operations 
in a law library
    * Must have at least two years supervisory skills.
    * Ability to interview, hire, train, and  review the work of others.
    * Knowledge of one foreign language highly desirable in such 
languages as Arabic,
Chinese, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Polish, 
Russian, Spanish
or Vietnamese and the ability to use romanization tables (as applicable).
