Subject: Job Announcement: Technical Services Supervisor (New Orleans, LA)


LAC seeks for immediate consideration, a Technical
Services Supervisor for a long term project in New Orleans,
Louisiana that will last approximately 3 years. The team
leader will be responsible for overseeing the staff of the
cataloging portion of this project including quality control,
database integrity, monitoring processes & reinstatements
and any original and serial cataloging. This project is for
restoring the library collection for Tulane University that was
severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, so come join and
become a part of the rebuilding of New Orleans!


Responsibilities:

* Supervise the project’s cataloging technicians along
with all project reinstatements;
* Oversee Quality Control and review work for
professional and para-professional staff;
* Handle original and serial cataloging;
* Act as a resource for cataloging technicians, providing
LC classification and subject headings as needed for copy
cataloging needing upgrading;
* Create documentation and reports on a regular basis;
* Maintain active communications and coordinate the
work effort with LAC’s project manager;
* Other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

* ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library or
Information Science or equivalent experience;
* Demonstrated ability or previous experience managing
a large cataloging/processing or acquisitions project;
* Knowledge of national cataloging standards and
practice including AACR2 and MARC21 formats;
* Recent and significant experience with an integrated
library system, preferably Endeavor Voyager;
* 3-5 years of previous cataloging experience in an
academic environment using L.C. classification, OCLC
and a ILS system, preferred;
* Previous supervisory experience;
* Knowledge of acquisitions work flow;
* Effective communication skills;

Other Qualifications:

* Previous archival experience, a plus;
* Experience in cataloging in an archival and music
environment and with government documents, a plus;
* Ability to work with a variety of languages for
bibliographic description, a plus;
