Head of Collection Management Services
 

Coastal Carolina University's Kimbel Library is expanding its services 
to meet
the needs of a rapidly growing campus. It seeks an enthusiastic 
colleague to provide
vision and leadership that reflects current needs and anticipates future 
trends in the
evolving library and information environment, including the rapid 
changes in providing
access to digital and physical materials to a wide range of 
constituents. Collection
Management Services (CMS) supports the university's mission of teaching, 
research,
and service. Kimbel Library has a materials budget of over $700,000 and 
currently
employs a staff of 9 faculty positions and 20 staff.

Responsibilities: The Head of Collection Management Services (CMS) reports
directly to the Executive Director of the Kimbel Library and 
Instructional Technologies
and is responsible for the overall supervision of the CMS department. 
CMS includes
the analysis, selection, acquisition, cataloging, classification, 
linking and maintenance
of library collections of all types and formats. The Head of CMS is the 
primary liaison
with University Counsel for all library resources licenses/contracts

Kimbel Library operates in a team environment. The Head of CMS works
collaboratively with all library departments on a wide variety of 
projects and library
committees, and contributes to program development and evaluation. The 
candidate
will be a participant and contributor to the Library's strategic 
planning and will serve
on University committees.

The Head of CMS will establish goals and priorities of the CMS 
department, in
coordination with the Library's strategic plan. The candidate is 
responsible for
developing, maintaining, and analyzing collection management statistics 
and providing
analysis reports for the University administration and other reporting 
bodies. The
Head of CMS and the Systems Librarian work collaboratively in program 
and collection
evaluations and reports. The Head of CMS will communicate clearly and 
define and
ensure quality outputs.

The Head of CMS is responsible for management of the entire library 
materials budget
and annual fiscal close in accordance with University policy and 
procedures. S/he will
coordinate acquisition responsibilities of the library liaison program 
and will serve as the
liaison to all graduate programs. The Head of CMS is responsible for 
preparing the
Library materials budget and departmental staffing requests, including 
equipment, furniture
supplies and services. The Head of CMS will actively participate in 
consortiums to provide
additional benefits to the University, State and local community. S/he 
will be actively
involved in regional and national library organizations.

The Head of CMS supervises one professional librarian, the Assistant CMS 
Librarian and
the candidate will actively mentor the Assistant CMS Librarian. The 
Assistant CMS
Librarian directly supervises approximately 4 paraprofessionals and 
provides leadership
in the establishment of workflows, priorities, and support systems that 
enhance access to
the collection.

Rank, Salary and Benefits:
This is a twelve-month, tenure track faculty position with a 
comprehensive benefits package.
