Open Position: Acquisitions Manager
Date: February 26, 2008
Department: Acquisitions Department
DUTIES:
· Participates in the personnel process of department staff including,
but not
limited to, hiring, supervision, discipline and evaluation of staff
performance
and identification of staff training needs.
· Establishes work priorities, monitors work production, and takes steps to
adjust work effort to meet requirements.
· Responsible for the purchase, verification, claiming and vouchering of
all
materials for the public service collection. Responsible for the
check-in of
all Main Library periodicals.
· Makes recommendations for service improvement to administration.
· Coordinates development of content for department's on-line resources.
· Responsible for achieving the best possible use of the acquisitions
and serial
modules in the computerized system and maintaining the databases related to
these modules.
· Keeps informed of developments in the library field by reading
professional
journals and attending workshops and conferences.
· Prepares narrative and statistical reports as necessary.
· Represents Library at meetings, conferences and seminars.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible professional
experience.
· Knowledge of standard business practices preferred.
· Supervisory experience preferred
· Knowledge of business practices in book and periodical publishing, the
production of audiovisual materials, and book and media jobbing.
· Knowledge of the acquisition specialty.
· Experience with Sirsi's Unicorn OASIS Acquisitions and Serials preferred
· Knowledge of the Library's policies and procedures is a plus.
· Independent judgment in order to set priorities and work independently.
· Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the public and staff.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION: MLS degree from an ALA accredited Library School
HOURS: 40 hours per week
SALARY: Grade 11: $52,270.40 - $75,192.00 per annum
