*GENERAL INFORMATION:* Arizona State University (ASU) at the Tempe
campus, invites applications for the position of Specialist
Senior/Contract Specialist. S/he will support the licensing program for
electronic materials for the multi-campus libraries of ASU, and for the
Arizona Universities Library Consortium (AULC), a partnership providing
access to electronic resources to university communities in the state of
Arizona. S/he will also participate with contracts and rights management
for knowledge management projects and initiatives, and undertake a major
role in local and national scholarly communication movements.
*THE UNIVERSITY:* Located in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area,
Arizona State University is one of the nation's preeminent public
universities. It is a rapidly growing multi-campus public research
university offering programs from the baccalaureate through the
doctorate. ASU has the 4^th largest enrollment in the nation, serving

*THE ASU LIBRARIES:* The ASU Libraries is a leader in innovative
customer service and in the strength of its collections; it ranks in the
top 40 research libraries in North America. The ASU Libraries
collections are located on four campuses (Tempe, West, Polytechnic and
Downtown) and include more than 4.2 million volumes, and approximately
33,000 current serial titles. Expenditures for library materials in the
2005-2006 fiscal year was over 11.4 million dollars; about 45% was used
to license electronic materials for access on and off all campuses. The
ASU Libraries are a member of Center for Research Libraries (CRL), the
Association of Research Libraries (ARL), Online Computer Library Center
(OCLC), and the Greater Western Libraries Alliance (GWLA). The
University Libraries is also an active participant in the Arizona
Universities Library Consortia (AULC). The ASU Libraries support over
60,000 full-time and part-time students and over 2,400 faculty. The

*RESPONSIBILITIES:* Under the direction of the Chief Officer of the
Collections and Scholarly Communications Office, the Contract Specialist
will support the electronic licensing program for the ASU Libraries of
Arizona State University. S/he will review all licenses for the Arizona
Universities Library Consortium (AULC), which provides electronic
products to university communities in the state of Arizona. S/he will
also participate with contracts and rights management for knowledge
management projects and initiatives, and undertake a major role in local
and national scholarly communication movements. S/he will maintain
accurate license records in the Electronic Resources management system.
S/he is responsible for maintaining an understanding of rights
management and how it applies to the ASU community. As a member of the
Collections and Scholarly Communications Office, s/he works
cooperatively and constructively with colleagues to meet Office,
Library, and ASU goals.
QUALIFICATIONS: *Required:* Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to
the area of assignment and five (5) years of related experience; OR,
Nine (9) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of
experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and
abilities have been achieved. *Preferred:* Familiarity with or
experience in contract law and negotiating contracts; familiarity with
electronic resources in an academic research library setting; experience
working collaboratively; Master of Library Science degree or coursework
leading to an MLS; and a JD degree or coursework leading to the JD
degree; effective communication skills.

professional preparation and experience.**
