Executive Director of Library and Instructional Technology Services
Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the newly created
position of Executive Director of Library and Instructional Technology
Services. The Exec Dir is the senior administrative officer of the
University's Kimbel Library and Instructional Technology Services and
reports directly to the Provost. S/he is responsible for the leadership,
organization, administration, operation, and evaluation of library and
instructional technology services, physical facilities, faculty and staff,
collections, and budgets. In concert with faculty, staff, and students, the
Executive Director promotes the educational objectives of the University by
leading the development of a shared vision of how the Library and
Instructional Technology Services serve the University community. A
particular emphasis of the position shall be enhancing the development of
the library as a center for learning, enhancing its collections, and
integrating new technologies in support of scholarly communication and
learning. S/he actively represents the Library and University in local,
regional, and national library and instructional technology organizations.
As a leader, manager, and supervisor within a complex organization, the
Executive Director is responsible for building a library services team
committed to organizational goals. In this capacity, s/he actively promotes
collaborative approaches to decision-making and implementation.

Responsibilities
Position is responsible for: the overall operation of the division of
Library and Instructional Technology; directs the coordination, planning and
development of Instructional Technology Services provided by the Technology
in Education to Advance Learning (TEAL) Lab; responsible for the
coordination, planning and development of Library and Instructional
Technology collections, services and programs to support CCU's academic
programs; responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of
both short and long-range plans and programs for Kimbel Library; responsible
for the formulation and administration of policies, procedures and protocols
which enable the effective use of the Library, its materials and services
and which promote a safe, diverse, tolerant, and respectful environment for
the entire library community; creates a vision for increasing the
technological capabilities of the Library and planning for flexibility to
adapt to future technologies; promotes the role of the TEAL Lab as a vehicle
for faculty integration of technology into teaching and the curriculum to
enhance student learning; develops and promotes academic information
resources in all formats and modes of delivery; responsible for employing,
leading, administering, evaluating, encouraging, supporting, and
disciplining all library personnel within the guidelines of the University
policy and legal restraints; responsible for the planning and management of
physical space needs for library facilities and collections; responsible for
the planning and management of the Libraries' virtual presence through its
website and digital collections; creates partnerships with the university
community and actively seeks collaborations between the Library and
complementary programs such as the Center for Effective Teaching and
Learning; responsible for the preparation and submission of the Library
budget, its appropriate allocation, and competent stewardship; serves as a
member of the Provost's staff and works closely with Deans and other
University officers and staff in resolving academic concerns and developing
effective University policy and activity; demonstrates leadership in the
Partnership Among SC Academic Libraries (PASCAL) consortium and other
statewide initiatives; collaborates with Advancement and others in
identifying and supporting the solicitation of external sources of funds and
gifts for the library; and responsible for the development of library
outreach programs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications include: an ALA-accredited Master's degree in
library and information science; proven leadership and administrative
abilities in an academic setting; demonstrated experience with Library
operations, technologies and online systems; a minimum of seven (7) years
successful experience in an administrative position in a college or
university library; demonstrated knowledge of both instructional design
principles and learning technologies and their application to instruction in
a university setting; and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with
staff, faculty, students, administrators, and the professional community
The successful candidate will exhibit the following knowledge, skills and
abilities: broad and in-depth knowledge of academic libraries and their
roles in the university setting; an understanding of and dedication to the
interrelationship of libraries, instructional technologies and information
technologies; knowledge of emerging technologies and their potential use in
the provision of instruction and access to information in a university
setting; demonstrated ability in an academic setting in managing personnel,
budgets, and other complex administrative issues; demonstrated ability to
communicate effectively in a scholarly setting. This includes excellent
oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, to multiple
constituencies and levels of contacts, particularly to all levels of Library
and Instructional Technology Services faculty and staff; and demonstrated
knowledge and/or experience in planning and implementation of library
expansion and renovation projects.
Preferred Qualifications include: a doctorate or a second master's degree,
preferably in the area of instructional technology or related fields;
previous experience as a director of a college or university library;
experience in research and scholarly activities on library related issues;
experience with university and community partnerships; and experience with
fundraising and grants.
