Position: The Accounting Technician (AT) performs financial
recordkeeping through the
delegation of the Director of Operations and under the general work
direction of the
Acquisition Librarian. The incumbent identifies, assembles, and compiles
data to be
used in creating trial balances as well as monthly and annual
reconciliation reports;
systematically enters and tracks payments, corrections of payments,
credits, and budget
transfers; returns unacceptable items to vendors; provides follow up on
vendor inquiries;
analyzes and resolves problems; reviews monthly vendor statements and
resolves errors
or discrepancies as appropriate; communicates with vendors, campus
personnel, and patrons;
and coordinates vendor payments for Library firm orders, serials, and
electronics materials,
ensuring they are accurate and the items have been received. Using
Innovative Interfaces,
PeopleSoft, and MS Excel software, the AT crafts, verifies, and presents
monthly and
annual reconciliation reports and regular updates on materials budget
expenditures and
processes accounts payable invoices and coded memos using funds from
General Fund,
Trust, and Foundation accounts. The AT performs other duties in the
Technical Services
Department, and throughout the Library, as assigned.
Qualifications:Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible
financial recordkeeping
experience which has provided the required knowledge and skills. The
successful candidate
will possess a comprehensive knowledge of financial recordkeeping
methods, procedures,
and practices and a thorough knowledge of governmental financial
recordkeeping methods;
excellent judgment, initiative and independence including the ability to
interpret existing policy
as well as to modify or devise new methods and procedures in response to
changing conditions,
precedent, need, and university policy. The successful candidate will
demonstrate the ability to
independently apply procedures and practices to enter, compile, analyze,
interpret, and report
financial data; to prepare clear, accurate financial statements and
reports; utilize problem solving
techniques in finding solutions to bookkeeping problems; understand and
apply applicable rules,
regulations, policies, and procedures; work independently under general
supervision; and to make
sound decisions and recommendations regarding financial activities.
Demonstrate the ability
and willingness to establish and maintain good working relationships
with administration, staff,
students, and the community; provide excellent customer service; and a
flexible attitude to a
changing working environment. Experience with Innovative Interfaces
and/or CMS PeopleSoft
systems, library acquisitions, cataloging or other technical services
work are preferred.

* Compensation: The salary range is $2,871 to $4,308 a month. Starting
salary placement
will not exceed the beginning of the range. This is a full time,
non-exempt position, which
will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of
a probationary period.
