Position: Electronic Resources Access Librarian
Available: November 1, 2007


The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a service-oriented
Electronic Resources Access Librarian to provide parallel coverage for
critical functions in the acquisition and management of the Library's large
and growing electronic collections. The Librarian will share responsibility
for the acquisition, access implementation, licensing, and ongoing 
maintenance
of electronic collections. Reporting to the Electronic Resources 
Librarian in the
University Library Acquisitions Department, the successful candidate 
will work
collaboratively with library colleagues and with publisher and vendor
representatives to achieve library goals.

Responsibilities

* Places orders for new electronic resources. Coordinates with supervisor
on initial and ongoing license negotiations.

* Oversees implementation of and record maintenance for electronic 
resources.

* Supervises one support staff position performing order and access 
functions.

* Works collaboratively to provide ongoing access to the electronic 
collections,
including troubleshooting problems arising from subscription, licensing, or
access-related technical issues.

* Oversees the management of the link resolver and subscription coverage 
service.

* Serves as liaison to the Print Serials Section in Acquisitions for 
issues, policies,
and procedures related to overlapping orders.

* Manages projects involving electronic resources, including the 
implementation
of the ILS Electronic Resources Management (ERM) module and the integration
of outsourced data into existing management systems.

* Develops and maintains understanding of issues related to electronic 
resources.
Contributes to the professional dialogue to improve service and enhance 
library resources.

* Serves on relevant Library committees and task forces.

Qualifications

Required:
ALA-accredited Masters degree. Excellent written and oral communication 
skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a commitment to 
customer service.
Effective organization and time management skills. Ability to work 
cooperatively and
flexibly with a variety of staff in a rapidly changing environment. 
Project management skills.
Experience with reporting tools such as MS Excel, MS Access or SQL. 
Interest in or
understanding of current practices and developments in electronic 
resources acquisitions,
licensing and data management.

Preferred:
Two years experience in a large academic library with electronic 
resource acquisitions,
licensing, and ongoing maintenance. Experience with Innovative's 
Millennium System.
Experience with Serials Solutions. Familiarity with electronic resources 
standards and
related initiatives. Supervisory experience. Flexibility and high degree 
of comfort with change.
