SERIALS/ACQUISITIONS COORDINATOR
Georgia College & State University offers a unique opportunity for an
innovative, enthusiastic,
and collaborative librarian to provide vision and leadership that both
reflects current needs and
anticipates future trends in the management of acquisitions, serials,
and electronic resources in
evolving library and instructional environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Administers and manages the activities of the
Serials/Acquisitions unit,
including the supervision of faculty, staff, and students. Participates
in governance as a member
of the Library Management Council. Responsible for monitoring LITC
budget and providing
information as needed for reporting and budget decisions. Responsible
for the acquisition,
cataloging, processing, and fiscal accounting for serials in print,
microfilm, and electronic format.
Manages the daily periodicals operations, including orders, renewals,
binding, statistical reporting,
invoicing, claiming activities, etc. Responsible for the acquisition,
licensing, implementation,
assessment, and ongoing maintenance of electronic resources. Registers,
monitors, and
roubleshoots subscription-related access to electronic resources with
publishers and vendors,
including EBSCO and Serials Solutions. Provides access to electronic
journals through support
and maintenance of link resolver software. Provides limited reference
desk service; acts as liaison
to one or more departments on campus; and serves on LITC and university
committees.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS. Minimum of two (2) years of serials
management experience, preferably in an academic library. Demonstrated
knowledge of
acquisitions and budget management. Knowledge of the purchasing,
licensing, and management
of electronic resources. Experience working with vendors and publishers.
Experience with an
integrated library system and OCLC. Successful supervisory experience.
Attention to detail
and accuracy. Ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines.
Flexibility in adapting to change.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work
independently as well as within a
team environment, to take initiative, and to follow through with all
responsibilities and assigned tasks.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Commitment to professional
growth/development and the ability to mentor and train others. Potential
to meet academic rank
and tenure requirements. Preferred: 3-5 years of acquisitions and/or
serials experience in an academic
library, which includes supervision. Experience with Voyager, Serials
Solutions, and SFX.
RANK AND SALARY: 12-month, tenure-track appointment. Salary and faculty
rank commensurate
with qualifications and experience. Competitive benefits package

ABOUT THE LIBRARY: Georgia College & State University is the state’s
designated Public Liberal
Arts University, located in historic Milledgeville. The campus consists
of 6,000 students. The Library
and Instructional Technology Center is one of the largest libraries in
Georgia, with space for 450,000
volumes. The library includes 39 group study rooms, two electronic
classrooms, three computer labs,
a graphics lab, and an Internet café. Primary access to the library
catalog, periodical indexes, and full-text
periodical databases is provided via GALILEO, Georgia's state-wide
library consortium. The library also
houses the internationally recognized Flannery O’Connor Collection, the
papers of Georgia’s late United
States Senator, Paul D. Coverdell, and the university’s museum.
