Position Announcement
Electronic Resources Librarian
If you are a dynamic, knowledgeable, energetic, innovative,
service-oriented librarian, excited by the challenges facing today’s
academic libraries, then the Texas A&M University Libraries is the place
for you. We are seeking candidates with these attributes for a position
to help manage our extensive array of electronic resources. This is a
tenure-track position with faculty status and rank and requires the
ability to meet the requirements of a tenure-track appointment. Entry
level candidates are encouraged to apply.
Position Description: The Electronic Resources Librarian is
responsible for the day-to-day operations and workflows supporting the
acquisition modules of the Libraries’ electronic resources management
and access systems, and for the interpretation and representation of
license and contract terms in those systems, in collaboration with the
Coordinator of Electronic Resources. Duties include, but are not
limited to, activation and maintenance of serial access records in our
link resolver, creation and maintenance of supplier and resource records
in our electronic resources management system, and creation and
maintenance of database access records in our federated search platform.
Currently the library uses SFX, Metalib, and Verde in managing its
electronic resources in a Voyager environment. The librarian has primary
responsibility for communications with other units of the Libraries
regarding electronic resources access issues, including staff supporting
Reference, Help Desk, Virtual Reference, Cataloging, and Systems. In
addition, the librarian has responsibility for importing usage and other
data into the systems from publisher and other sources as those system
capabilities become available.
Required Qualifications:
● ALA-accredited Masters degree (or equivalent)
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● A commitment to strong customer service within and outside the
libraries
● Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the
ability to take initiative
● Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work accurately and
quickly
● Demonstrated ability to use basic desktop applications such as
spreadsheet and database programs
● Capability to work independently
● Commitment to work with persons from culturally diverse
backgrounds
Desired Qualifications:
Candidates will have, through education or experience:
● Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to serials
acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resources management, interlibrary
loan, or other technical services functions
● Demonstrated familiarity with the technical services modules of
electronic resources management systems, integrated library systems,
interlibrary loan management systems, or other library related
information technologies
● Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to contract and license
interpretation, and of issues related to fair use, CONTU, perpetual
access, and other use rights
ENVIRONMENT: Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University has an enrollment of
over 45,000 students, making it the seventh largest university in the
nation. Texas A&M University Libraries is a member of the Association of
Research Libraries (ARL) and is the University's principal research and
information center, providing 3.9 million volumes, 5.6 million
microforms, 49,800 print and electronic serial titles, more than 300,000
electronic books, and over 600 databases. The University Libraries ranks
18th among ARL libraries in materials expenditures, with an acquisitions
budget of $14.5m. There is a total budgeted staff of 261, including 78
librarians with faculty status. Librarians work in a sophisticated
online environment utilizing Voyager, SFX, Metalib, Verde and a full
range of automated information retrieval services.
Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with
qualifications and experience; salary is not less than $44,000.
