Subject: Position Opening: Texas A&M University Libraries
Science and Engineering Lecturer
The Texas A&M University Libraries invite applicants for the position
of Science and Engineering Lecturer. This is a full-time, a non-tenure
track position.
Position Description: Reporting to the Head of Reference Services, the
Science and Engineering Lecturer provides a wide range of library
services, including regularly scheduled reference service at the Evans
Reference Desk and in a virtual (chat-based) reference environment. The
lecturer will develop and share subject expertise in assigned areas,
working collaboratively with the Science and Engineering librarians and
Evans Reference staff, as well as the heads of reference, instruction
and liaison services. The lecturer will participate in a program of
outreach services to include library promotion and needs assessment in
support of these areas as well as the general population of students,
faculty, and staff.
Evans Reference offers research and information services to the Texas
A&M community through traditional and virtual settings. The successful
candidate will join a team of thirty-five librarians and staff in
offering high-touch and high-tech information services to the students,
faculty and staff of Texas A&M.
Required Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in a science or engineering field.
● A commitment to strong customer service within and outside the
libraries.
● Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented by the
ability to take initiative.
● Capability to work independently.
● Demonstrated experience using library related information
technologies.
● Commitment to work with persons from culturally diverse
backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Minimum of one year library experience
● Knowledge of science/engineering reference tools.
Environment: Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University has an enrollment of
over 45,000 students making it the seventh largest university in the
nation Texas A&M University Libraries is a member of Association of
Research Libraries (ARL) and is the University's principal research and
information center, providing 3.9 million volumes, 5.6 million
microforms, 49,800 print and electronic serial titles, more than 300,000
electronic books, and over 600 databases. The University Libraries rank
18th among ARL libraries in materials expenditures with an acquisition
budget of $14.5m. There is a total staff of 261 including 78 librarians
with faculty status. Librarians work in a sophisticated online
environment utilizing Voyager, SFX, Metalib, and a full range of
automated information retrieval services.
Salary/Benefits/Rank: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and
experience, but is not less than $32,000.00. Excellent benefits include
choice of health plan options and paid life insurance; several
retirement plans including TIAA-CREF; paid holidays and vacation; no
state or local income tax.
