Collection Management Librarian

The SUNY Upstate Health Sciences Library seeks a knowledgeable, 
creative, and
service-oriented colleague for the position of Collection Management 
Librarian.
Applicants should be able to apply excellent technical and interpersonal 
skills to
all aspects of collection management, including collection development, 
acquisitions,
e-resource licensing, cancellations, and work with others within the 
library, the University
and vendors. The incumbent will coordinate daily operations related to: 
product trials;
ordering; receiving; processing a wide variety of material in a variety 
of formats; invoicing
and account management. This department also troubleshoots e-journal and 
database access
issues (including remote access), coordinating with vendors and the 
Library web services
team as appropriate. The incumbent supervises 2 paraprofessionals and 
reports to the
Associate Director for Technical Services.
The successful candidate will work proactively with Upstate faculty, 
staff, students,
researchers and clinicians to meet their current and emerging health 
information resource
needs. The Library generally purchases resources on request and uses a 
cost metric as
an indicator for cancellations. The Library acquisitions budget is 
approximately 2M. The
incumbent also is responsible for maintaining print and electronic data 
records, keeping
statistics, and preparing reports and forecasts. This position: 
participates in Library planning;
works closely with Document Delivery, the Health Information Center, the 
Media Librarian
and the Curator; contributes to Reference services; contributes to 
department projects and
special initiatives as assigned; and participates in Library and 
University committees and
task forces. Involvement in professional associations is expected.
The HSL's current interests include: developing new collaborations with 
SUNY and other
medical libraries; partnering with the Onondaga County Public Libraries; 
developing a Family
Resources Center for the Golisano's Children's Hospital; promoting a 
culture of evidence
based practice; delivering HSL services and resources to satellite 
locations; and designing
and delivering services and resources in support of Upstate's Centers of 
Excellence.
The SUNY Upstate Medical University is Central New York's only academic 
medical

nursing, health professions, and graduate studies; a 350 bed tertiary

Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program (MLS) 
library school;
3-5 years of collection development experience as a librarian in an 
academic library, including
e- journals and other e-resource(s) management; supervisory experience; 
knowledge of current
and emerging topics in resource sharing; and strong analytical/problem 
solving and critical
thinking skills.

Preferred: Experience in a health sciences library using an automated, 
integrated library system
(preferably Ex Libris' ALEPH) and a bibliographic utility (OCLC 
preferred); AHIP membership;
knowledge of MeSH, NLM classification, MARC format; enthusiastic about 
bibliographic
technology ; excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills; strong 
service orientation; and excellent
organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Initial appointment will be at the rank of Senior 
Assistant Librarian
(min. 40k depending on qualifications). Excellent benefits package 
including TIAA-CREF and
other retirement options. 12 month, tenure track position with faculty 
status, entailing responsibilities
for scholarship and professional service. Position is open until filled.
