Job Description:
Seeking a Project Manager (PM) to manage the information and research
services which support the activities of the USAID Library; The PM will
lead the transformation of the Knowledge Services Center toward a
virtual environment and provide outreach and serve as liaison to all
bureaus within the agency. The PM will be an advocate for the Knowledge
Services Center.
Responsibilities:
* Hire, train, and manage all library and research
personnel;
* Provide oversight for the organization of the Center resources
including identifying relevant material; ordering and purchasing
materials, subscriptions to periodicals; invoice payment; and
accounting and management reporting;
* Provide content for the Center resources web pages;
* Track and report monthly statistics for Center services to include
reference and research requests, database searching, inter-library loan,
and database training;
* Update Center marketing materials, information packages, and user's
guides as necessary;
* Participate in providing reference services through regular duty at
the reference desk and by responding to information requests using a
wide variety of databases;
* Conduct Briefings on the Center at new employee orientation and
professional training;
* Acquire non-agency development materials, including reference
materials, periodicals, audiovisuals, electronic media, journals and
other donor and development organization documents for addition to the
Center collection;
* Recommend refinements in existing research, reference and library
operating procedures whenever such refinements are justified;
* Stay abreast of the information needs and trends within the agency,
including the areas of foreign assistance, economic development, and
development organizations; stays abreast of trends in library and
information science.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program;
* A bachelor's degree in a subject relevant to social and economic
development or international relations is preferred;
* Experience managing library and research programs is mandatory;
* Experience with online database searching, including but not
limited to DIALOG, Medline, Lexis-Nexis, and Dun & Bradstreet;
* Demonstrated proficiency with the Internet, World Wide Web, word
processing and other computer software applications;
* Demonstrated experience with integrated library systems;
* Demonstrated achievement in outreach activities with, or working
knowledge of, other international development organizations and
colleagues;
* Knowledge of foreign affairs, foreign assistance, economic
development, or developing countries required;
* U.S. citizenship required.
