Head of Collection Management
Frazar Memorial Library
McNeese State University invites qualified applicants and nominations
for the position of Head of Collection Management in the Frazar
Memorial Library. This is a full time, 12-month, unclassified, tenure
track position. The appointment begins September 1, 2007.
Position Description and Responsibilities: The Head of Collection
Management's responsibilities include the following:
Formulate policies and procedures to effectively and efficiently
coordinate the activities of Collection Management.
Supervise the work and evaluate the performance of Collection
Management staff and provide necessary training.
Order and process requested monographs, audiovisual materials, and
non-serial databases.
Coordinate the ordering and receiving of standing orders,
continuations, and non-serial databases.
Manipulate collection data to produce reports and maintain
appropriate records.
Maintain effective communication with department heads and library
representatives of academic departments.
Keep abreast of trends and changes in libraries and librarianship
through the reading of professional literature and attending
professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
Perform other duties as specified by supervisor.
The Head of Collection Management will work closely with Library
staff, University faculty, administration, staff, and students, as
well as members of the community, library profession, technical
support personnel, publishers' representatives, and the general public.
Qualifications:
Required
Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited or
equivalent institution. Official transcripts documenting all college
degrees must be on file in the office of the Vice President of Academic
Affairs, prior to beginning employment.
Ability to communicate effectively and work well with Library patrons
and staff, University staff, and others.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred
One year of experience in an acquisitions/collection management
department of an academic library.
One year of general library experience in reference or cataloging.
Salary: $50,800
