Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Services
The University of Louisville (UofL) seeks an innovative, forward-
thinking librarian to fill the position of Associate Dean for
Collections and Scholarly Services. Reporting to the Dean of University
Libraries, the Associate Dean for Collections and Scholarly Services
plays an essential role in the development and direction of the
Libraries' digital initiatives, collection development, and
preservation programs and oversees Ekstrom Library's Special
Collections Department. The University Libraries

Research Libraries (http://www.arl.org/) in 2002, an honor that
reflects its stature as a major research library. The University of
Louisville (http://louisville.edu) is a Carnegie I research
university with a national reputation for its high-quality
undergraduate program and over twenty nationally recognized research,
graduate, and professional programs, as well as a strong commitment to
the community in which it resides. The city of Louisville

alongside major city amenities like world-class performing arts, great
sports, incredible dining and a nationally-acclaimed parks system.
Responsibilities:
Oversee and direct libraries-wide development of print and digital
collections in support of existing and emerging academic and research
needs of the university community
§ Oversee and direct Special Collections, consisting of Rare Books &
Photographic Archives
§ Oversee and direct the Libraries' digital initiatives program
§ Develop a preservation program for the libraries
§ Collaborate with the Libraries Development Officer and others on
campus to secure funding for initiatives relating to the areas outlined
above
§ Serve on the libraries senior administrative team
§ Allocate and oversee expenditures of the materials budget
Minimum qualifications:
Masters degree from an ALA-accredited program; ten years professional
experience in progressively responsible positions in an academic or
research library; supervisory experience; substantial knowledge of trends
and best practices in collection development, digital initiatives,
special collections and preservation; demonstrated ability to develop new
programs and services; excellent oral & written communication skills;
demonstrated leadership experience and capabilities; strong record of
publications, presentations and service to the profession; demonstrated
ability to work well with a diverse group of colleagues; excellent
organizational, time and project management skills
Desirable Qualifications: Successful experience with securing external
funding; additional advanced degree
The appointment rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
Annual minimum salary $70,000 and a comprehensive benefits package and
annual vacation of 22 working days. Library faculty appointments are
tenure-track positions. Promotion and tenure require demonstration of
scholarship and other criteria.
