Coordinator, Collection Development
The Queens Library is a non-profit corporation serving nearly 15
million visitors each year through its Central Library & 62 Community
Libraries throughout Queens, NY, with corporate headquarters based in
Jamaica, NY. Queens Library is recognized as a leader in the library
profession and is ranked in the top 10 busiest public libraries in the
world. The Queens Borough Public Library is currently seeking a
Coordinator of Collection Development.
We are offering an exciting and dynamic opportunity to manage
significant resources, staff and strategies in one of the country's
premier public libraries. This is a senior management and planning
position in the Technical Services Department; with the opportunity
to influence organizational strategies. In recent years, the
Collection Development Division oversaw a large portion of a $10
million materials budget using it to purchase hundreds of thousands
of items for the library's 63 locations thereby supporting a
circulation of over 20.2 million.
This position oversees system wide selection of library materials,
tracks trends in publishing to assure street-date delivery of
materials to library customers, tracks and analyzes materials usage
system wide, assist agencies with collection management, manages
on-line and electronic tools and handles resources that support
acquisitions. The Coordinator of Collection Development will play a
significant role in transitioning Queens Library into a new ILS
system and will develop and maintain beneficial relationships with
industry vendors and other library leaders. Other responsibilities
include working with senior level managers, directly supervising
Collection Development staff and enhancing book related programs and
promotions system wide.
Minimum of six years of relevant work experience in the publishing,
book vendor or library field. Masters Degree required, MLS preferred.
Demonstrated evidence of experience in collection development.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Salary up to $70k
