Electronic Resources Librarian
Cornell University Library (CUL) seeks a service-minded Electronic
Resources Librarian to participate in the management and further
development of the Library's large and growing online collections.
The Cornell University Library, with an annual materials budget
exceeding $18,000,000, continues to build its extensive online
collections. Reporting to the Head, E-Resources & Serials Management
Unit, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with
colleagues throughout CUL, representatives of publishers and vendors
and faculty, staff and students who need to access the online
collections for their research and study.
The Electronic Resources Librarian, one of two in the Unit, has
responsibilities for acquisitions, licensing, implementation,
assessment and ongoing maintenance of the online collections. The
successful candidate will also have assignments with the Associate
University Librarian for Scholarly Communications and Collections and
serve as a technical services liaison to groups engaged in building
and providing quality access to our collections.
Primary Responsibilities:
Initiates new electronic resources acquisitions. Participates fully in
their initial and ongoing licensing, access implementation and record
maintenance.
Represents Cornell in negotiations with vendors and publishers.
Works as part of a team to provide ongoing access to the online
collections, including troubleshooting problems arising from
subscription, licensing or access-related technical issues including
link resolution and federated searching.
Collaborates with other Unit and Library staff to insure the efficient
processing and maintenance of ongoing subscriptions. Collaborates in
workflow analysis, operational changes and documentation of procedures
and policies.
Manages projects involving electronic resources. These may include
initiatives to enhance or develop new services and manage the many
necessary details for maintaining and assessing the online collections.
Serves as a liaison to assigned collection development teams and works
closely with the Associate University Librarian on the funding of
electronic resources supported by central funds.
Serves as a resource to others in the Unit and Library for statistics
regarding the use of electronic resources to assist in projects or
analysis of the online collections.
Develops and maintains expert knowledge of issues related to electronic
resources and contributes to the professional dialogue about topics of
importance the Cornell and broader library community.
Required: MLS or graduate degree with relevant library or technical
experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the
ability to collaborate with staff throughout the library system.
Interest in or understanding of current practices and developments in
electronic resources acquisitions, licensing and/or record management.
Strong technical skills. Potential for meeting the criteria for
retention and promotion.
Preferred: Previous experience with electronic resources, cataloging/
metadata or serials. Previous work with teams and managing projects.
Familiarity with electronic resources standards such as OpenURL and
ONIX, and electronic resource related initiatives such as SUSHI,
COUNTER,
License Expression, etc. Experience with reporting tools such as MS
Access or SQL.
