Subject: ALA Meeting Announcement (ALCTS Medium Heads)

The ALCTS Technical Services Administrators of Medium-Sized Research
Libraries Discussion Group will meet at ALA Annual in Washington D.C.:

Saturday, June 23, 2007, 10:30 am -12:00 noon
Washington Room in the Washington Plaza Hotel

The topic is: Towards RDA Online in 2009: Planning for Adoption and
Implementation

Marjorie Bloss, RDA Project Manager, will lead a dialogue and question
and answer session with technical services administrators regarding
issues of RDA adoption and implementation. The session will include
up-to-date information about RDA as well as the beginning plans for
orientation and implementation. Topics to be covered include:

1.         Implementation schedule;
2.         How managers can get ready and tools for  learning RDA;
3.         Formats in which RDA will be available;
4.         What do staff need to know in advance (FRBR, FRAD, ...)?;
5. What are the effects of RDA on our online systems and
vendors;
Are our vendors  preparing for implementation?;
6. What are the effects and interrelationships between RDA, the
MARC format, Dublin Core and other metadata schemas?

Thanks for considering attendance at what we hope will be a stimulating
and timely discussion.

Michael Boock, Discussion Group Chair
