Subject: ALA Meeting Announcement: Creative Ideas in TS DG

The ALCTS Creative Ideas in Technical Services Discussion Group will
meet at the ALA Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. on Sunday, June 24,
2007, from 1:30-3:30pm in the Madison Hotel in the Hamilton Room.
Participants are welcome to join breakout discussions on the topics
listed below. At the end of the discussion period, each group will give

a short summary for the benefit of all attendees.

The tentative discussion topics are:

1. Creating a catalog "front end" that integrates well in the Amazoogle
environment (back by popular demand)
2. Best practices for incorporating projects into the cataloging
workflow
3. Making your case for expanding the technical services department
4. Management/employee supervision and motivation issues
5. Coordination of collection development and technical services
6. The RLIN/OCLC transition
7. How to get and use staff production statistics
8. Staffing and workflow changes as a result of the move from print to
e-journals
9. Use of form/genre terms in MARC records
10. Incorporating vendor order and/or cataloging records into your
workflow

Volunteers sought: We are asking for volunteers to facilitate and
record the discussions at each topic table.

Responsibilities of the volunteers:
FACILITATORS guide the discussion on the topics at their tables, making
sure everyone participates, and keeps it within the allotted time. The
chair and vice-chair will provide facilitators with suggestions to serve

as a discussion guide.
RECORDERS take notes during discussions and send a written report to the

vice-chair soon after the conference is over. These reports form the
basis for the reports to ALCTS and Technical Services Quarterly.

If you would be willing to facilitate or record the discussion at one of

the tables, please send your information to Linda Lomker (address email
to: L-Lomk_at_tc.umn.edu) by June 19, 2007 . Indicate any and all the
topics you would be willing to facilitate or record.

We are looking forward to seeing you there,
Carla Davis Cunningham, Temple University, Chair
Linda Lomker, University of Minnesota, Vice chair/Chair elect
