Subject: Updated ALA Meeting Announcement

EBOOK PROSPECTS: 2007

Last June in New Orleans, the ALCTS Acquisitions Managers and Vendors
Interest Group hosted a session on eBooks for Libraries. Tom Sanville
of OhioLINK moderated a panel consisting of representatives from ebrary,
netLibrary, Blackwell's and YBP. This June, our group will again
explore the prospects for eBook adoption in libraries, with another
excellent panel:

Moderator:
Steve Bosch, Materials, Budget & Procurement Librarian, University of
Arizona

Panelists:
James Gray, President/CEO, Ingram Digital Group & MyiLibrary

Kari Paulson, President, EBL (E-Book Library)

Olaf Ernst, Director, E-Content Development, Springer Publishing

Nader Qaimari, Senior Director, Gale Virtual Reference Library

Chris Thorpe, CEO, Knovel Corporation

The moderator will provide a 15-20 minute overview of the current state
of eBooks in academic libraries: platforms, delivery models, desirable
characteristics, barriers to adoption. Following that, the panelists
will each have 5-10 minutes to describe their company's perspective on
how eBook services will evolve. These are not intended to be formal
presentations or demos, but rather comments on strategy--a verbal
outline of where each sees the market going, and how their firm plans
to influence or respond to that direction.

Then the moderator will pose some questions, and invite the audience to
join the discussion. The intent is to allow maximum interaction. We hope
to focus on ideas that would help remove barriers to adoption, to
encourage experimentation, and ultimately to discern some useful next
steps.

DATE: Sunday, June 24, 2007
