Subject: ALA Meeting Announcement

Session: eBook Prospects: 2007

Last June in New Orleans, the ALCTS Acquisitions Managers and Vendors
Interest Group hosted a panel on eBooks for libraries that was
moderated by Tom Sanville of OhioLINK. The panel consisted of
representatives from ebrary, netLibrary, Blackwell's and YBP Library
Services. This June, our group will revisit that topic, with a
different moderator and a different group of panelists, including
Ingram/myiLibrary, EBL, Springer, and one other publisher.

The moderator will provide a 15-20 minute introduction/overview of
the current state of eBooks in academic libraries: platforms,
delivery models, desirable characteristics, barriers to adoption.
Following that, the panelists will each have 5-10 minutes to describe
their company's perspective on how eBook adoption in libraries will
evolve. These are not intended to be formal presentations, just a
basic verbal outline of where each sees the market for eBooks going,
and how their firm is influencing or responding to that.

Then the moderator will pose some questions, and invite the audience
to join the discussion. The intent is to allow maximum interaction.
The idea would be to focus on ideas that would help remove barriers
to adoption, to lay out next steps, to encourage librarians to
experiment more, and ultimately to continue discussing where eBooks
in libraries are headed.

Moderator: Steve Bosch, Materials Budget, Procurement, and Licensing
Librarian, University of Arizona

Confirmed panelists are:

James Gray, CEO, Ingram Digital/MyiLibrary
Kari Paulson, President, EBL (Ebook Library)
Olaf Ernst, Director, eContent Development, Springer
Additional panelist to be named shortly
