Assistant Director for Administrative Services
University Libraries
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
The University Libraries seek a strong manager and dynamic individual
for the position of Assistant Director for Administrative Services.
Reporting to the University Librarian, this position will serve as the
Libraries' budget officer and will direct administrative services that
include facilities management, human resources, security and safety.
He/she will be responsible for the administration of all business
services as they relate to library operations and planning. This is a
twelve month, tenured or tenure track position. Demonstrated
professional achievement, professional service, and scholarly/creative
activity are required for reappointment and tenure.
Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate all facilities operations including renovations,
repairs, signage, security, maintenance, space planning and
beautification efforts to provide learning space that is appealing to
the Libraries' users.
Plan and provide strategic direction and leadership for the Libraries'
budget and financial affairs. Plan, prepare and present budget plans
and reports, and develop policies and procedures that enhance the
Libraries' fiscal management. Responsible for advising on optimal
financial decision-making at all levels in the Libraries.
Lead and coordinate all grant-seeking opportunities and activities,
library-wide planning, research and evaluation.
Coordinate and manage the data collection and reporting of information
and statistics to local, state and national agencies, working closely
with the University Librarian and the Libraries? senior administration
on planning and assessment documents such as the Libraries? annual
report, the strategic plan, reports to accrediting bodies and other
required reporting documents.
Participate with the University Librarian and administrative team in
planning, policymaking and implementation, and decision-making for the
Libraries.
Represent the Libraries, participate in university-wide initiatives,
and work closely with campus administrators in areas of assigned
responsibility. Ensure Libraries? compliance with university, system,
and state policies and procedures.
Supervise personnel programs and services and administer the human
resources functions of the UNCG Libraries, including the supervision
of the Personnel and Planning Librarian.
Work Environment
UNCG is a doctoral, research-intensive institution with an enrollment
of over 16,600, 22 doctoral degree programs, 66 master degree programs,
and a broad range of academic programs for undergraduate education. The
University Libraries support the learning and research missions of the
University through its print and electronic resources, reference and
instructional services, and other outreach programs. With a budget of
$10 million, the collections include 3.2 million volumes, more than
35,000 electronic or print journal subscriptions, over 300 electronic
databases, and 740,000 federal government documents. The University's
190-acre campus is one mile from the center of Greensboro, a city of
more than 230,000 and is in the Piedmont Triad (with a population over
1 million), an area of great natural beauty, diverse industry, cultural

Qualifications:
Required:
* An ALA-accredited MLS, with at least three years post-MLS experience
in increasingly responsible management positions in an academic
library
* Significant experience in budget management and/or facilities project
management
* Knowledge of developments in higher education, scholarly processes
and personnel issues facing academic research libraries
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment
with a strong commitment to diversity
* Demonstrated leadership ability, analytical skills, computer software
proficiency especially related to financial and accounting applications,
creative and innovative problem-solving, and a strong commitment to
service excellence
* Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communications,
interpersonal skills and superior organizational ability
Preferred:
* Graduate degree in a related field such as Business, Accounting or
Public Administration
* Experience in overseeing an overall annual budget of at least $5
million
* Experience with vendor contracts and competitive bidding processes
* Experience in grant development and administration
* Donor relations experience
* Public relations experience
