Collection Management Librarian (Librarian I)

DESCRIPTION      
Manages Collection Development Department and provides leadership to 
develop and manage collections in various formats, including development

of selected research-level collections. Coordinates Collection 
Management Resources Team to development policies.  

Coordinates with liaison librarians for selection of appropriate 
materials for purchase, consulting faculty, scholarly reviews and other 
sources. 

Oversees selection and evaluation of materials for discard and 
replacement; reviews gift books. Initiates and develops new projects, 
including application of new technology. Develops and implements 
policies, goals, and objectives and performance standards. Prepares 
statistical and analytical reports. 

Negotiates with publishers and vendors; seeks out and evaluates ordering
sources, including approval plans. Monitors materials budget. Recommends

purchase of supplies and equipment. 

Directs, trains, and supervises staff and student assistants; manages 
personnel matters, including the performance evaluation process. Serves 
as liaison to one or more academic departments and provides reference 
and instructional services on a limited basis. 

Works collaboratively with Library and faculty departments. Serves on 
campus committees and participates in Library, University and external 
professional activities. Keeps informed of professional trends and 
practices.

Performs other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS  Required:  Master's degree in Library Science from an 
ALA-accredited library school.  Second master's degree in a subject 
area or ABD status in an approved doctoral program.  Five years' 
professional library experience, with demonstrated and/or potential
administrative and coordinating ability.  A minimum of five additional 
years' professional library experience may be considered in 
substitution for the second master's degree or ABD status in an 
approved doctoral program, depending on the quality of the experience. 
Experience with collection development utilizing an integrated library
system (especially Sirsi Unicorn).  

Excellent leadership abilities and communication and interpersonal 
skills; analytical and problem solving skills; initiative, flexibility 
and creativity.  Strong service orientation and commitment to 
continuous professional development.

Preferred: Experience in administration of a department or unit. 
Reading competence in one (1) foreign language.

SALARY RANGE          $71,678.61

January 9, 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.
