Associate University Librarian for Technical Services and Collection
JOB DESCRIPTION: One of three leadership positions reporting to the
Dean of Libraries, the Head of Technical Services and Collections is
responsible for all activities associated with acquisitions and
collection development: bibliographic searching, ordering, receiving,
claiming, and invoice processing; and technical processing: cataloging,
processing of new materials in all formats, preservation, and oversight
of the use and support of the automated library system. The candidate
will establish policy, set goals, evaluate and refine procedures, and
provide supervision and leadership in the adoption of new methods in a
rapidly changing work environment. Demonstration of strong
organizational and project management skills is required along with
ability to anticipate future trends in technical services. S/he must
possess ability to create and maintain statistical reports for
activities
under his/her administration. The applicant participates as a member of
ranked University librarians on committees and University-wide faculty
activities.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Required: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent;
evidence of proven library administrative experience in technical
services and/or collection management; ability to create a cooperative
and effective work environment through the use of strong supervisory and
management skills; skill in presenting ideas orally and in writing to
both
groups and individuals; flexibility and ability to work effectively with
colleagues in a team environment.
