CHIEF BIBLIOGRAPHER FOR SCIENCES & ENGINEERING, Tulane University, New 
Orleans. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library seeks a creative and service-
oriented Chief Bibliographer for the Sciences & Engineering. Qualified 
librarians who are interested in participating in the recovery of 
Tulane University and New Orleans are encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This librarian reports to the Associate Dean for 
Collections and is one of three chief bibliographers. Along with the 
associate dean, chief bibliographers serve as a collaborative working 
group that addresses collection issues, sets collection priorities, and 
reviews requests for expensive or multidisciplinary material. The Chief 
Bibliographer for the Sciences & Engineering is responsible for 
managing general and endowed science and engineering funds, maintaining 
collection policies in consultation with faculty and librarians, and 
providing collection development guidance to other science 
bibliographers. They perform general help and research duties at the 
Reference desk, and participate in instruction, outreach, and digital 
services efforts. The librarian is expected to develop expertise in 
emerging technologies and lead and/or participate in innovative library 
projects.

REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent; substantial collection 
development experience; demonstrated knowledge of the scholarly 
communication issues facing academic libraries; understanding of the 
information needs of scientists and engineers; excellent interpersonal
and communication skills; a record of working well in groups or teams.

PREFERRED: Advanced degree or scholarship in the sciences, engineering, 
or computer science; reference service experience; familiarity with STM 
electronic resource management; enthusiasm for an innovative and 
cooperative environment.

ENVIRONMENT: Tulane University is an AAU institution located in 
picturesque uptown New Orleans. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is 
Tulane's main library, an ARL research collection supporting programs 
in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and engineering. 
Recently, the library has been reorganizing, building its collections, 
and planning for expansion of its facilities.

COMPENSATION: Rank and salary are negotiable, commensurate with 
experience. This is a twelve-month, academic status appointment. 
Benefits are those that accrue to exempt staff of the University and 
include health care insurance, retirement plan options, a tuition 
discount program, and paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
