The Countway Medical Library at Harvard Medical School is currently
seeking a librarian to fill a newly created position.
Title: Collection & Knowledge Management Librarian
School / Unit: Harvard Medical School
Department: Countway Library/CBMI

Duties And Responsibilities: This position participates in shaping and
implementing a new and exciting vision for a world-class library and
informatics center of the 21st century, supporting a broad and diverse
range of constituencies, including students, faculty and researchers
from the Harvard Medical School and its affiliated institutions. Under
the general supervision of the Directors of the Francis A. Countway
Library and the HMS Center for Biomedical Informatics, this position
serves as a member of the senior management staff and sets the
direction and develops the policies and procedures for the full range
of collections and knowledge management activities. Provides leadership
in meeting the needs of scholarly communication in both print and
digital formats, collaborating with staff across the library in
developing creative and sustainable approaches. Oversees the
acquisition,
cataloguing, curation, and bibliographic control of library collections,
serials, and data sets. Oversees the preservation of materials and
accepts book and journal gifts to the library. Collaborates with other
staff in developing funding proposals to support innovative initiatives
in collections and knowledge management.
Required Education, Experience and Skills: Qualified candidate must have
an ALA-accredited Masters in Library and Information Science; five or
more years of supervisory experience; significant experience in print
and electronic health sciences/medical collections and curatorial
management; and strong knowledge of electronic publication licensing
agreements. This person must also possess demonstrated skill in working
collaboratively with colleagues at all levels toward shared goals and
excellence in communication. A background in the life sciences and/or
biomedical informatics is preferred.
Serves as primary liaison to HMS faculty and students in the assessment,
selection, and acquisition of high quality library materials. Serves as
liaison to Harvard University libraries, HMS affiliated hospital
libraries and other academic healthcare libraries in the areas of
collection and knowledge management and represents the library at high-
level local, regional, and national meetings.
