Subject: ALA ALCTS Meeting Announcement: PVLR Interest Group Open Forum
Please plan to attend the Publisher-Vendor Library Relations Interest
Group Open Forum in New Orleans:
University Presses: Rising to the Challenge
8 - 10 AM on Monday morning, June 26, 2006
Morial Convention Center; Room 242
Want to know more about how University Presses are embracing the
challenges facing scholarly publishing? What does it take for a UP to
thrive these days? How are the Presses dealing with shrinking markets,
working to provide the new services electronic technology allows,
developing new marketing strategies, reorganizing and retraining their
staff? Where do libraries come in?
In this, the first of two Forums devoted to the state of the University
Presses (the second to follow at Midwinter 2007), the ALCTS Publisher-
Vendor Library Relations Interest Group has brought together
distinguished representatives of the University Press book and journal
publishing communities for an open discussion of their strategies for
success.
Our Speakers Include:
Donna Blagdan, Journals Marketing Manager, Duke University Press
Barbara Ras, Director, Trinity University Press
Seetha Srinivasan, Director, University Press of Mississippi
Julie Steffen, Associate Journals Division Manager, Astronomy
Publisher, The University of Chicago Press
Our Moderator will be October Ivins, publishing industry consultant
(Ivins e-Content Solutions).
PVLR hosts an open forum at each ALA Conference, summer and winter. In
January 2007 (Seattle), our topic will be: Relationships Between the
University Press and its Respective Library.
We conduct our business meeting every conference at 1:30 PM on
Saturday afternoon. To learn about how you might get involved with
this important work, please contact the chair.
