WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
Electronic Resources Librarian
Western Michigan University Libraries seeks an energetic, service-
oriented librarian to develop, maintain and ensure access to electronic
resources. This position is one of three innovative technical services
unit leaders reporting to the Head of the Technical Services. As a
full-time, tenure track, assistant or associate professor, the incumbent
will have an excellent opportunity to develop a wide-ranging expertise
in electronic resources management while working collaboratively with
other librarians and staff in a visionary library environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Electronic Resources Librarian coordinates and provides assistance
with the acquisition, implementation and maintenance of the library's
electronic resources. Responsibilities include assisting with
providing access to all types of electronic resources; assisting with
licensing and consortial agreements; working with vendors to resolve
access problems; collecting usage data and analyzing statistics and
management reports; providing internal training and information about
electronic resources; and coordinating vendor visits. This person
supervises 3.0 FTE staff members. This position also directs the
updating and maintains the linking capabilities among digital resources
with tools such as SFX, EZ-Proxy, and MS Access; researches and analyzes
systems and services and assists with technical reviews in collaboration
with the Systems Department. This position will also assist with the
supervision of cataloging and access maintenance activities. Reference
and instruction responsibilities may be included; some reference
responsibilities may require evening and weekend hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
Degree from ALA accredited program in library or information science
Academic library experience working with electronic resources in
technical services
Demonstrated flexibility in dealing with people, technology, and
multiple priorities
Excellent computer skills, including the development of Microsoft Access
databases.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong
customer-service orientation and
organizational skills
Commitment to professional development and the ability to meet the
requirements of tenure and promotion as a faculty member
Preferred
Experience with standard business practices
Knowledge of negotiating language and contracts
Working knowledge of HTML and other web-based technologies such as XML,
XSL, CSS and JavaScript
Experience with database development, design and maintenance
Demonstrated experience with ILS (e.g., Voyager) and OpenURL resolver
(e.g., SFX)
Experience and/or extensive training with OCLC, MARC formats, AACR2 and
serials work using an ILS
Knowledge of metadata applications and developments
Second Master's degree
SALARY: Full-time twelve months tenure-track/tenured appointment.
Faculty rank, status, privileges, and responsibilities. Minimum: $47,875
for Assistant Professor plus generous benefits. Salary, rank and tenure
status commensurate with qualifications and experience. Beginning
employment date is August 2006.
