Collection Development Librarian
The University of Texas-Pan American, a growing and vibrant institution
located in South Texas, is seeking an innovative, energetic and
service-oriented librarian to lead collection development and
management. With growing enrollments and expansion of undergraduate
and graduate degree programs, the library has seen substantial growth
to support the university's mission. This is an opportunity to help
provide leadership in the development and implementation of important
new programs, including an approval plan and a preprocessed materials
program. The successful candidate will work together with qualified
staff and colleagues and a supportive administration.
PRIMARY DUTIES include planning and implementation of collection
analysis, disposition of all gifts, updating policies, writing new
policies and procedures, and creating a webpage for all the activities
in the collection development. Incumbent administers approval plan
profiling, and approves the selection of print and non-print materials.
Reports to the Associate Library Director and works closely with
librarians/faculty liaisons program.
The successful candidate will share in certain subject areas acting as
liaison to some academic department, providing library instruction and
reference services. May require some night and weekend work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include an MLS from an ALA accredited program;
2-3 years of professional experience in collection department or
closely related area in academic libraries; understanding of trends in
scholarly communication and publishing industry; effective planning and
budgeting for library collection development; demonstrated competence in
the use of electronic resources and web page making; excellent
interpersonal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to
work effectively with faculty and staff campus-wide.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS include additional advanced degree; supervisory
experience in an academic library, record of professional activity, and
working knowledge of formula budget allocations.
SALARY minimum is $44,000/yr. with qualifications. This is a
professional
administrative position.
