Position: Serials Coordinator
Appointment Rank: Assistant or Associate Professor

Are you an experienced serials librarian ready to move into a management
position in an ARL library? If so, please consider applying for the
Serials Coordinator position at the University of Tennessee Libraries.
The successful candidate will bring vision and energy to acquiring and
providing access to serials material in an ever-changing environment.
The Serials Coordinator is part of the Technical Services and Digital
Access (TSDA) Team, reports directly to the Team Leader, and is a member
of the TSDA management group. Supervises eight full time serials staff
and several students in all aspects of serials work including ordering,
receipt, payment, and cataloging of serials in all formats. Works
closely with Cataloging, Collection Development, and Library Technology
Services on serials cataloging issues and providing access to electronic
resources. Provides leadership in serials and electronic resources
management to branch and affiliated libraries on campus and in
Nashville. Selects and evaluates performance of serials vendors.
The University of Tennessee Libraries uses the Aleph system from Ex
Libris as an OPAC and also uses their SFX and MetaLib products. The
Libraries have approximately 25,500 subscriptions including access to
large electronic resource collections such as ScienceDirect, Wiley
Interscience and SpringerLink. The work environment is team-based and
strongly user-centered. Expected performance includes participating in
the intellectual life and activities of the Libraries and the University
and maintaining a record of professional contribution and research.
Required qualifications: Masters Degree from an ALA accredited program;
several years' experience with serials, at least two years post-MLS.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills and a
record of bringing projects to completion. Self-motivation and
excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to function
effectively in a team environment. Working knowledge of current trends
in library technical services.
Preferred qualifications: Experience supervising personnel in a library
environment is strongly preferred. Acquisitions and/or cataloging
experience; experience with writing procedural documentation; experience
with training and evaluating personnel; experience working with vendors;
experience with or knowledge of Electronic Resource Management Systems
(ERMS); knowledge of acquisitions business practices.

Located along the Tennessee River and near the Great Smoky Mountains

living is among the nation's most affordable. Knoxville, and nearby Oak
Ridge, support an opera company, symphony, jazz, and an art museum, and
serve as the medical center for east Tennessee.

The University of Tennessee Libraries, with an annual budget of more
than $13 million, includes the John C. Hodges Main Library; the James D.
Hoskins Library, which includes the Map and Special Collection
Libraries; the Webster Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine
Library; and the George F. DeVine Music Library. The Social Work
Library is located in Nashville. Over three hundred persons are
employed, including 58 librarians, 10 exempt, 123 non-exempt, and 150
students. UT Libraries is a member of the Association of Research
Libraries, SOLINET, and the Center for Research Libraries. The UT
Libraries offers a Web-based information system and access to a variety
of electronic information sources.

Salary and Benefits:
Appointment at rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, dependent upon
qualifications. Minimum salary is $48,000. Faculty rank and status;
twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library faculty must meet
University requirements for promotion and tenure, which includes
research and service components. Excellent benefits include 24 annual
leave days; choice of state retirement plan or TIAA/CREF with
nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by the University;
optional group health and life insurance plans. Tuition remission is
available for all university employees; partial undergraduate tuition
remission is available to dependent children and spouses of UT
employees.
