University of North Carolina Greensboro Libraries
Collections & Scholarly Resources Coordinator

The University Libraries seek a knowledgeable, dynamic, service-
oriented, and experienced individual for the position of Collections & 
Scholarly Resources Coordinator. Reporting to the Assistant Director for

Collections and Technical Services, this individual plays a vital role 
in policy development and planning new initiatives that enhance the 
Libraries' printand digital library collections. This is a twelve-month,
tenure-track position. Demonstrated professional achievement, 
professional service, and scholarly/creative activity are required for 
reappointment and tenure.

Primary Responsibilities
Participates in library-wide planning, policy, and priority decisions as

a member of the Libraries' Administrative Advisory Group;

Manages initiatives and makes ongoing strategic decisions for
administration, management, assessment, selection, and mediation of 
library collections;

Writes collection development policies that address user needs, 
university priorities, and the Libraries' fiscal resources;

Works closely with colleagues in the Libraries and with academic faculty

to address issues of information content and access;

Coordinates and participates in the Libraries' Liaison program;
participates in the evaluation of Liaisons' performance as it relates to
collection development;

Works closely with the Finance and Facilities Librarian, Acquisitions,
Collection Management Committee, subject Liaisons, and Electronic 
Resources and Information Technology on initiatives and projects that 
enhance and further develop the Libraries' collections and scholarly 
resources;

Plays an active role in the development of the Libraries' institutional
repository programs and digital collections, including working with the
Libraries' Digital Projects Coordinator to seek scholarly content, 
develop collection policy, monitor issues of copyright compliance, and 
develop strategies in promoting the programs;

Takes a leadership role in developing, planning, and designing a 
scholarly communication program and activities that inform and educate 
the UNCG community on current issues of scholarly communication, 
copyright, and intellectual property;

Works closely with the library administration on fund raising, donor
stewardship, and campus policies regarding the collections and 
scholarly resources;

Maintains partnerships with the academic faculty and with state and
national organizations in the area of collection development and serves 
as an external representative for the Libraries.

Required Qualifications
ALA-accredited MLS; minimum of two years of professional experience in
library collection development and related experience in academic or
research libraries; demonstrated ability to work effectively with a 
highly diverse group of professional librarians, academic faculty 
members, students, and support staff on issues of collection development

policy and fiscal priorities; experience with collections budget
planning 
including budget projections and needs assessment; broad knowledge of 
library materials in a variety of formats and experience in working with

vendors to acquire them; excellent written and oral communication
skills; 
demonstrated understanding of current issues in scholarly communication 
and trends of publishing industries; substantial knowledge of standards,

trends, and emerging technology and their applications to collection 
development activities; willingness to embrace change and new issues 
related to developing collections and scholarly resources; commitment to

cultivate a positive work environment that encourages collegial and team

work; willingness to assist, advise, and support the Libraries' Liaisons

in their professional growth.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional graduate degree in an academic discipline; experience in 
digital library projects; grant-writing and fundraising experience; 
working knowledge of a foreign language; significant knowledge of 
publishing business models, evolving modes of publications (i.e. open 
access journals, open archives initiatives, institutional repositories, 
etc.), and scholarly communication issues; record of significant 
participation at the national level in organizations addressing issues 
of managing collections and scholarly resources.

Work Environment
UNCG is a doctoral, research-intensive institution with an enrollment of
over 15,000, 22 doctoral degree programs, 59 master's degree programs, 
and a broad range of academic programs for undergraduate education. The
University Libraries support the learning and research missions of the
University through its print and electronic resources, reference and
instructional services, and other outreach programs, and with
collections
of 1.2 million volumes, over 4,300 current journal subscriptions, more 
than 30,000 electronic journals, and over 300 databases. The
University's
190-acre campus is one mile from the center of Greensboro, a city of
more
than 230,000 and is in the Piedmont Triad (with a population of over 1
million), in an area of great natural beauty, diverse industry, cultural
arts, and mild temperatures.

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position at the appointment is competitive and
depends
upon qualifications and experience. Standard benefits include state or
optional (including TIAA/CREF) retirement plans, state health plan, and

vacation days per year.
