TITLE: Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian 
CATEGORY: Non-Tenured Faculty, Full Time (12 Month Appointment)

The University of Maryland Libraries at College Park is seeking 
qualified applicants for the position of Serials and Electronic 
Resources Librarian.  This position reports to the Head of Acquisitions 
and is responsible for the supervision and management of the Continuing 
Resources team, including a staff of 6.5 FTE support staff and student 
assistants as necessary.  The University Libraries uses Ex Libris Aleph 
to manage and access its collections.  Current Aleph version is 16.2.

Responsibilities: Monitors and analyzes the workflow of the Continuing 
Resources team in Acquisitions.  Plans for improving team and department
services and activities.  Assesses needed resources.  Working with the 
Manager for E-content Management in the Information Technology Division,

coordinates negotiations, ordering, payment and problem solving involved
with electronic resources.  Monitors print journal and print standing 
order vendor operations.  Develops and maintains business relationships 
with vendors.  Trains staff and library faculty as needed in serial 
operations.  Serves as the serials expert in RFP development and
proposal
evaluation.  Provides serial management expertise to the Collection 
Management Team. Provides staff training at the individual, team, 
department, and library levels.  Works with other teams in Technical 
Services to ensure uniform application of national and local cataloging
standards and policies for all continuing resources.      

Qualifications:  Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library 
Science; Minimum three years professional library acquisitions
experience; 
working knowledge of cataloging standards; experience managing
operations, 
solving complex problems, and supervising staff.  Demonstrated 
communication skills; ability to interact with diverse teams and to 
effectively communicate abstract ideas.  Incumbent should be
self-directed, 
flexible and adaptable to change, analytical and results-oriented.  
Experience working in team environments.  Preferred:  Strong
understanding 
of serials acquisitions; familiarity with business principles and
practices; 
experience with Ex Libris Aleph Library system.  Familiarity with trends
in serials management and electronic resources/publishing.

Position is appointed to Librarian Faculty ranks.  Appointment rank is 
based on the successful applicant's experience and relevant credentials.
