POSITION:  Electronic Resources Librarian

DESCRIPTION: Vanderbilt University Library is seeking a creative, 
service-oriented librarian to manage access to and information 
about library electronic resources, including over 25,000 
e-journals and databases and nearly 200,000 e-books, for all 
libraries within the Jean & Alexander Heard Library System. Under 
the direction and support of the Assistant University Librarian for 
Technical Services, s/he will collaborate with others throughout 
the library system to carry out this responsibility, including 
participation in identifying and licensing e-resources.  Major 
duties include coordinating acquisition, payment, record keeping, 
fiscal control, technical compatibility, and upkeep of electronic 
resources; ensuring continuing access; and quickly resolving any 
problems that occur. The Electronic Resources Librarian will also 
gather and analyze data to evaluate usage, user satisfaction, and 
vendor performance for electronic resources; monitor trends in 
e-publishing and e-resource management; and recommend or implement 
new initiatives as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS: M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution required. 
Three years of relevant experience required. The candidate should 
demonstrate extensive knowledge and understanding of issues and 
practices related to e-resource use, management, preservation, and 
copyright. Candidate should possess relevant experience managing 
library resources in some capacity within an automated environment 
as well as knowledge of public service issues related to 
e-resources. The position requires demonstrated experience working 
in a collaborative, collegial organizational structure; also the 
ability to work independently and follow through on work 
assignments. Commitment to quality service, evidence of initiative 
and flexibility, and excellent oral and written communication 
skills required. Desirable qualifications:  Experience working in 
the technical management of electronic resources, experience 
negotiating with publishers/vendors for the provision of 
e-resources, experience with technologies used to provide access to 
e-resources, experience with technical process improvement, and 
familiarity with a variety of computer hardware and software.
ENVIRONMENT: Vanderbilt University consists of ten schools and 
colleges with an enrollment of over 11,000. The Jean & Alexander 
Heard Library System has a collection of over 3 million volumes in 
eight libraries and a staff of 210. Vanderbilt University is a 
member of the Association of Research Libraries and SOLINET. 
Technical Services consists of three teams that order, catalog, and 
preserve library collections for the libraries. The Electronic 
Resources Librarian is a new position within Technical Services 
with responsibility for collaboration across the library system. 
The Electronic Resources Librarian will join the team leaders and 
AUL for Technical Services as a member of TechForce, the Technical 
Services management group.

COMPENSATION: Salary minimum $37,000, commensurate with experience. 
Benefits are those that accrue to exempt staff of the University
